Today(Tuesday) I received a call from the PD, telling me that they are interested in me a lot and will rank me higher in Match.Interestingly the college has expired their Pre Match quota and wont be able to offer me Pre match. I don't know how to take this call form the PD as I have not yet written thank you letters to them even. If somebody can pls advise on it...that whether I shud take this call seriously or not. Will be grateful to that person. Shikha Since none of us know the program or the PD in question we can't really say whether you should take it seriously or not. Those who say you should believe the PD might be called slightly naive and those who say don't are probably unnecessarily cynical. Are you asking because you're wondering where to put them on your rank order list? If that's why, there's an easy answer. Rank your programs according to YOUR preference without ANY consideration of HOW or even WHETHER they are going to rank you. You can read a detailed explanation for this on the NRMP website. If there is a specific reason why you're asking, let us know. Good luck.

I would take the call seriously...The fact that the PD called you right the next day...It is true that a lot of community hospitals have already given out all of their prematch spots or are on the way of submitting their quota to NRMP (so it's too late..) It is another question if this is the program taht rocked your world and you want to get in there at any price. You still should rank in the order of your wishes (totally agree with jazmil) and not how you think you're going to be ranked. Good luck!

thanks a lot jazmil for your kind advise. Jazmil there is no specific reason of my asking that, it just crossed my mind that if the PD has still some seats left then why he's not giving it in pre match or whether Im not such a strong candidate to get those seats in pre match. Thanks medicus_81 for your kind advise. As I too want to take this call seriously, its just was little skeptical. Then today called up a resident of that program (Just an acquaintance) and he said that their PD never bluffs and he must be serious about it.So I hope they will rank me high. Its just that match is a process where everybody is racing, that thing worries me. Thanks once again for your advise. Good Luck to both of you for the Match.

let say there is another candidate with ur same characteristics and both were called the day after IV. and both will be ranked either 7 or 8. u followed up the call, and the other guy didnt. the PD will rank u 7 and the other guy 8. so its OK to follow up their calls and mails and show interest(to believe what they say). but ur final ROL dont has to be related with any interest but yours

i also think its a very good sign...you just happen to IV there late, all their prematch slots were given, and their quota for nrmp has been set/submitted... if you rank them highly, you will have a very good chance of landing there...still, as the others have said, rank according to your preference..congrats and GL!
