a 14 year old girl is brought by her 17 yr old boyfriend to the hospital for 6 wks H/O of ammenorrheoa. She accepts the fact the she had unprotected sex past 6 months.
on examination she is found to be anxious with normal vitals.
Her urine pregnancy test(UPT) is POSITIVE.
on telling her the diagnosis she starts sweating profusely and asks for a medical termination of pregnancy.
before she is taken to the OR. she begs u not to tell her parents about this.
what will be ur next best step.

-follow the girls wish for MTP but call her parents.
-go for a MTP and educate the couple about the safe sex practices and information regarding STDs
-call child health care services and file charge the boyfriend for rape.
-contact your hospital ethic committee.
-call parents of both the girl and her boyfriend and educate them regarding proper upbringing of children.

this is a tough q. But if this is an ex. of emancipated minor, I'll go w/ : the 2nd. answer.

but in some states there's now a law to inform parents since they're both minors :
so go w/ the last answer. call parents.

Seems that the answer is the second but i couldn't find the guidelines regarding the steps for statutory rape i know that we have to report it but not sure if we can file charges as the third option states but eager to know the right answer smiling face

it is not emegency situation and she is not taken to OR right away bcs of amenorrhea.
Shoud be option "encourage discussion with parents". smiling face

following are the reasons for which even a minor can give consent and are not necessary to be reported to their parents, police, court and child health care services.

-pegnancy
-STD's
-sex education
-contraception
-mental health dysfunctions
-drugs and/or alcohol abuse

in the above Q, there are 2 issues, firstly the girl wants to abort, and finally she falls into the category of rape.
according to UW, in such cases if there is any possiblity of rape, the first thing u shud do is to report to child health agencies,
later u shud think of abortion or MTP.....so the next step shud be inform child health athorities.
