a 14 year old girl is brought by her 17 yr old boyfriend to the hospital for 6 wks H/O of ammenorrheoa. She accepts the fact the she had unprotected sex past 6 months.
on examination she is found to be anxious with normal vitals.
Her urine pregnancy test(UPT) is POSITIVE.
on telling her the diagnosis she starts sweating profusely and asks for a medical termination of pregnancy.
which of the following is the true statement regarding consent,

- call the girls parents and seek consent for MTP.

Ask the girl for consent when it is related to STDs treatment and anticonceptives methods there is no need for guardian consent but here there is a case of statutory rape(not related to the Q though)
Also we should be aware of the law difference in each state in US.

A minor may seek medical care without parental consent if she can convince the court that she is mature enough to act in her own best interest and thus make an independent judgment to consent to treatment.[18, 19] Once a finding has been made in court that a minor is sufficiently mature enough to act in her own best interest and make an independent judgment to consent to treatment, it is unconstitutional for judicial authorization to be withheld.

I found a similar answer in a different Q and the answer given is the one i wrote but honestly it makes sense to determinate that the minor is legally "sufficiently mature" before to proceed and again it varies by state law.

kind of q not for usmle.
Per Kaplan's ethics: some states require parental concent for abortion, others do not. Abortion issues in general are not usmle questions

It really depends on the state.

But I think since we don't communicate a pregnancy to the girls' parents (rather stimulate the patient to talk to them), that shouldn't change because the girl wants to terminate it. So: ask the girl.
