43 yo lady came to your office for hypertension follow up , during routine physical examination, her B.P was 200/140 , Ophthalmoscopic eye exam revealed bilateral retinal hemorrhages , ECG showed left axis deviation , which of the following expected to be decreased in this pt :

a-arterial density

b-arterial wall thickness

c-arterial wall to lumen ratio

d-capillary wall to lumen ratio

e-total peripheral resistance

PS: this question for "answer once you read " just pick nodup one ..not for further invest..wink

Hey Let other people still answer they have something to add or to learn. Its not a biggie that the question is reposted for the newbies or juniors. So keep the discussion going.

Can someone explain why A is correct? confused Thx

yep...can someone (re) explain???

I thought the Ans is C

Reason: Chronic Ht--> end-organ damage--> + Atherosclerosis-->Arterial Narrowing so lower Ratio?

arteriolar wall to lumen ratio and capillary wall to lumen ratio are increased because of continuous contactile state in chronic hypertenson.same with arteriolar wall thickness . total peripheral resistance is also increased in htn. but the number of arterioles/unit mass of tissue ( arteriolar density) is decreased

well when there is hypertension, some of the arterioles re compressed because of the high blood pressure, the organs try to autoregulate their blood supply, by compressing some of the arterioles, as a result, the after some time these arterioles re destroyed, and the total arteriolar density is decrease in hypertension, after some time...
