yup. i think it's actually better than observerships. you could actually maximize this opportunity by working as a nurse in a hospital where they have a residency program (who have a history of accepting IMG's) and you can stretch this even more by working in a specialty department where you plan to apply.

Im definitely sure that politics still exist here. Contacts and connections matter a lot.

Good luck kabayan.

My sister did work as a registered nurse in a nice teaching hospital in ER when she was studing for exams..for 3 years she did this... Now she is senior- resident at the same place doing IM...She was an old grad with bad English when she started. She improved her English, got Green Card, got LOLs and nice husband also( and got me here thanks a lot)when she was doing that. The only problem you can not work as a nurse with your MD diploma, they will not let you, you need to have a nursing degree...you are not qualify to be a nurse...too smart probably... ha ha ha.

i was actually under the impression that the original poster is already a nurse Sigh.
a little trivia here. i was told that about a decade ago, a doctor can challenge the nursing licensure exam and if he/she passes then he/she can practice as a nurse.

May be he/she is a nurse... we don't know for sure...I don't like when people make fun or humiliate somebody...so just gave some personal info for support...

I think you can't challenge the exam, you need at least 2 years in College to be a nurse.
