Hey people It's been a while since I have been on. Actually I started my clinical rotations as I felt that I was wasting time sitting at home stressing about the step 1. So now Im studying as well as doing rotations. I want to start doing USMLE world. The reason being that I want to start doing questions soon into the prep than leaving it last minute. So my question is that does USMLE world come subject based or system based? I am hoping it is subject based cuz I want to do questions for each subject once Im done reading it. I don't know if this is a good idea, so please can I get some replies from students who have done it this way as well as others as everyones opinion is valuable. Also I dont know a whole lot about USMLE world so can someone please provide me with some info. Thanks in advance.

Also does anyone know approx. how many questions I get for USMLE world if I sign up for 3 months? Is it a set amount for each subject? And can I switch between system based and subject based once Im signed up.....or am I only allowed to pick one? Thanks

Hi..how r u ?? saw u after a loong time.. if u r planning to take UW for 3 months,u can start it after u finish one subject. that means, u can start with biochem and physio qs once u r done with initial reading of these 2 subj. similarly, i feel, u shud start doing patho etc. qs only after u have read them once. coz the qs are very tough, and without initial read, the scores will be very low..which might hamper ur studies. to get an idea of the qs..u can do the kaplan q bk along with ur first read. that way u will be solving qs and also reading other subj. then, once u r done with 1st read of all subj, u can start UW. u can do it more confidently. this is what i feel.. and u will get the same no. of qs .. regardless the period of ur subscrition..that is a bit more than 2000qs. yes it has a set amnt for each subj .. which is divided in diff areas..u can take test choosing any subject and subdivision (like hemato/respi/cvs/reproductive/oncology etc) u want ..wenever u want..and can switch them as u like. for eg. if u want to do system wise..u need to select one system and All subjects..and wen u need to do subject wise..u have to select one subject and ALL subdivisions.and u can mark them for revising later. u will understand once u take it. UW is a very good learning tool..it helps in learning and assessment a lot. GL to u..

Hey mydream Thanks soooo much for yur reply. It really helps a lot. In a way I guess you are right....I think I should do a first read for all the subjects first and then try to do the questions. That way I can skip between subject based and sytem based. I think I will get a better feel of it. Yur reply really did help....thanks once again.
