I was shocked!!! I was numb. I was in denial!! Now I have gathered myself up again. Decided to take my time and score very well next time. But question is I see some people in my boat ready to re take test in march...Can anyone plz tell me whats the advantage in that, Rank order list will be made by feb end. I have opted for J1 incase I match this time. If i remain unmatched I will go for H1 next time. I had automatic transmision of my transcript..so the programs must be knowing my result. Is it a good idea to email them teling the same and also mentioning that I dont mind J1?? i did that already in 2 programs and then got scared..did not do in rest. If they like you do they rank you if you dont pass step 3 and change H1 visa requirement to J1. Im in agreat delimma if i should get ready for taking test in march( if aat all it has benefits for this match season) or should take my time to take test when I feel ready comfortably. plz give your inputs. I need them. Thanks.

Wat are u talking about? I can't believe it! 73..So close...Oh My God! Don't worry nikki! It is not the end of the road.....I know few people who have failed step 3 for the first time and then retook the exam within a month and passed it...I would suggest you to read uw again and so few more questions as you mentioned..I am sure it is because of the IV season and the pressure of match that have showed upon ur results...It doesn't mean that u cannot match this time.. There are so many other alternative options -- U could take the test again and pass it and get the results within the end of march.....So, have ur target by march midweek and u will be fine.. Or else..You could convert your visa status into J1 and Please don't cancel other IV's..people are longing for IV's and u should be glad that u got a few...PD's do know that step 3 is a difficult exam and they all need is that u have to pass..That's it... So, Don't worry..take a break and start studying again as u did for step 2 CK! U will be definitely fine this time....All ur hardwork would definitely be paid off at the end! All the very best

hi nikki its heartbreaking, I know the pain! I never ever thought I will fail, but I did . Sheer bad luck, my score is 72.. and my step 1/2 are 93/91, cs pass. All first attempt.... I was shocked toooooo...... but Its a real world. Things happen, bad things happen, worse things happen, and they make us stronger!!! In your case , they already have got your result, so be honest tell them, it was just a bad day in step3 and you are sure you will retake it soon and pass. I will suggest you not to give up and gear up. trust me in residency you wont get that much time as you have now. You are 70% prepared already so, gather yourself up and retake. we can stay in touch by phone or email. and keep on motivating each other. I had chosen manual transmission and none of my programs know that I failed. Regarding telling programs, I will say I have still not taken Step3, so I will taking it in march and hopefully If I pass this time I will get H1 sposnsorship. Well even if you take exam till april you can get H1, cos when my brother matched last year. At that time he hadnt taken step3 so what he did was he took step 3 in April got result in may. and got a premium processing done for H1(in premium processing you have to pay 1500$ and they do H1 processing in 15 days. So he is working in a NY program and he has H1. I have a live example.

I am vreally sorry and shocked to hear that nikki . Like sprint said it must be related to the pressure of the match and interviews . Don ' t rush yourself , sit back and get ready for it again . I am sure you will pass next time .By the way , I have CS in one week and plan to take step3 in may.

DOCNIKKI, i am sorry for this but I can say that I will learn from this - It is a difficult exam. Remember you are a doctor and have to accept such small failures. Can you think what else you feel you want to read / practice ? How you can add to your existing knowledge? You are trying to give an exam which others give after 1 year residency. We are IMGs - We leave our house / our country to work and qualify in US. Never lose heart since you are qualified in 2 different countries - it is also an achievement. I have been reading many such reports of failures from people who scored well in previous steps. i learn to be prepared myself for such an episode and also would try my best to pass. i think you should give your best attempt in April. I wish you all the best.
