Hello,
I was wondering about Visa Issue. Currently, my husband is working as a clinical fellow in one of the non-ACGME program in the US. He is sponsored visa by ECFMG under clinical fellow catergory and he is also subject to 2 yr HRR. The problem is he couln't find a clinical fellow position for the next year. My question is as follow.
1.If his hospital is willing to sponsor him for a reseach-scholor visa, can we stay here for another year ? Would it be possible to convert from J1 clinical to J1 research?
Is there any options for us?

It is possible to change from J-1 clinical to J-1 research and vis-a-versa. But change in J-1 category requires approval from Dept of State and this process may take any where between 3 months to 10 months. Though clinical to research takes shorter time of the above range, it is not a sure shot. Another problem that you may face is, when your husband is ready to transit to clinical work again, to go through same process..
