I am ECFMG certified and applying for step 3 in the state of New york where i have accepted a prematch. I am a bit confused about licensure requirement and FCVS. Do i need Temporary license to start residency? How and where do i apply for that? Do i have to apply for license now while submitting step 3 application. (what are the documents that i need to submit to obtain the license.) How does FCVS work...why do they take 8 weeks +_2-3 weeks. Are they going to go back to medical school to verify everything again just like ECFMG? How long does all this take and by when should i absolutely apply for me to take the exam by April 2008.

NY state does NOT require temporary licence to start residency. It's up to EACH hospital. So, if your hospital does not require, then answer is NO
