Bismillah..
This is the first time I have decided to start a prep journal,coz I have seen the kind of motivation ppl get in this part of the forum,that can even make the laziest person on earth get motivated to study ..and I need that type of encouragement during the step1 prep,coz this is going to be a humongous task for me,coz its more than 7 years that i gave my last exam on basic sciences and now with a new born around,I know its just not going to be easy...yeah one more name in the super mom list!
Gave CS yday, Did a lot of mistakes,thinking of which i like banging my head to the wall,I just hope to pass, I messed up very easy cases,just coz of nervousness, anyways I cant waste any more of my precious time fretting abt CS,I have to be done with step1, before my son starts to cruise (within 3 months time)
I gave my Step 2 CK FIRST coz i am a recent graduate and I was fresh with all the subjects in CK..
I am starting with MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY from kaplan 2005 notes.. I have listened to GOLJAN audios and I think mastering biochem and physio before I started patho is a good idea...

Welcome aboard Aashi !!!
I agree that you should master physio and Biochem before moving on to Pathology. I am sure your recent knowledge from IM will also help you.
Do not worry about your CS. InshaAllah you will make it. People do make mistakes and pass and I am sure your will pass too.

Wht i have read from others CS experiences is that ,that there is always room for mistakes and its UNAVOIDABLE and its not possible to be 100% perfect in all the steps when u have just 15 mins with the SP...and its quite natural to be totally unsatisfied abt ur performance in CS..I am going through that phase right now, so starting my step1 at this time will take my mind of thinking abt all those silly mistakes that i unknowingly commited in my CS exam..
Yes my knowledge in IM is DEFINETLY helping me a lot with patho..the problem i am facing is ,i just feel incomplete when i read a particular system in path coz in IM u cover EVERYTHING including investigations , dx and t/t and in patho u stop at investigation..so i keep chking my IM notes now and then when i was listening to goljan..I dont know wether this is the same feeling for everyone who has done step2 CK first ...hoefully i will get used to read only from one book at time, otherwise i wont be able to give my step1 ON TIME..
Will jot down my progress at the end of day! "BIOCHEM " here i come,I will FINISH you in a week time ..Your count down starts ..NOW!

hey dear .... join da gang im also taking step 1 after step 2 ck ... which ws not so good for me got score 81 \198 .... im will also have only 3 months for prep for step 1 which aint givin me any time to breathe ...... nd i gotta do it coz i got to be in time for 2009 match !!!!!!
with great will and determination they say everything is possible

Hey doc_shrutz...thanks a lot for dropping by...I gave step2 ck before step1 and scored a 95, though not a gr8 score,I AM HAPPY with that score coz i did it when i was pregnant ...,It was easier to learn coz I was a recent graduate and I dont regret giving it first,coz i might have wasted a lot of time prepping for step1 and after that was over i shld have forgotten all the contents of step2 and spend double the amt of time,If i had given it after step1...

Hi Aashi,
I want to match in 2009, I want to give step 1 in april, then cs in june and ck in october. It seems almost unrealistic, but I have to match in 2009.

Hi aashi n papio.I m planning to gv steps this year n still confused what step i shd gv 1st 1 or 2 but on thing more i m graduated in 2001 that is something i saw in ur conversation so can u guide me i shd go 1st with step 1 or 2......

Welcome ashi ! by few days with step 1 prep u will be more comforatble and its good to start next step prep w/o fretting about exm taken..im sure u will get good result in cs.and congrats 95 in step2ck is good score indeed ...all the best for step 1.have great study time all thru step 1 prepping!

Hi toxicity,
I graduated in mid 2006..and that is y i gave CK first, coz i was quite fresh with the topics covered in step2 CK.If I were you, i will be following the usual route which most of the people who plans to give USMLE follow, that is taking step1 FIRST and then step2..Again its totally up2 u,which u prefer to give first..

Yes 1 week is the max that I can give to molecular bio and biochem, that is total 18 chapters------>2.5 chapters per day..

Finished reading biochem chapters on Aminoacids, Hormones and Vitamins
Will revise molecular bio tomorrow and read the next chapters in Biochem..

Phew! Finished chapters on Glycolysis, Pyruvate dehydrogenase, Citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation , glycogen gluconeogenesis and HMP shunt.
Do not know how much I can retain all the info that i learnt today, nevertheless i thoroughly enjoyed listening to the lectures and learning them..

25th jan 2008
Today I am going to dubai and I will be giving my step1 from there, coz my parents are there and i will have some help taking care of my son when i am in dubai and i can concentrate more on step1. will reach my final destination on 27th jan and will continue my prep from 28th jan.
Yday nothing much happened, coz I was packing my all step1 books and my other stuff and my sons luggage( lord! he has got loads of stuff, which i never imagined) to tell the truth i am getting nervous travelling with this lil guy in the flight, coz its going to take > 13 hrs inflight to reach my destination..and this is the first time i am traveling alone with my 3 month old son , so I am kinds nervous, cud not even sleep well yday thinking abt the travel.. ( yah kinda silly)
Hopefully everything will go well and both of us reach safely to our destination(ameen)

Hi Aashi.I thought u r done with all ur steps.U answer all the questions so well.I m really impressed that u got such a nice score when u were pregnant...ur basics r very strong I guess......I m too preparing for step 1....but feeling very down bcos I feel I m forgetting things......Praying to GOD to help me.
Hey I m sure step 1 will be a cakewalk for u.U will do excellent bcos the way u answer the questions is gr8

Reached dubai today,touch wood my son did nt trouble me at all he was sleeping most of the time and the connecting flights were all on time..but it was indeed a loooooooooooong trip....will continue my step1 prep from tomorrow inshallah!
