All, I have applied in 150 programs but received just 4 interviews. I have got prematch from Prince George but have heard bad things about that hospital. Should I accept the prematch or go into matching with remaining 3 others. Prince George is definitely not my first choice but I do not have too many options either. Please advise. Thanks

you got 2.7% of invitations and 25% prematch offers... which means 100% of chance of residency How many positions go to the match of your other programs? do you think you'll have 90-100% chances of matching? ... less than 50% of IMGs match... including applicants with good credentials... If you are certain you'll match try, otherwise it seems that this is a great opportunity...

Well said prueba!! Please don't go into statistics because I'm starting to get very scared about the match .... I don't even want to think about it! So dear this is tough if you feel like your options for the match are very limited go for the prematch

It all depends on what you want...do you want to try only the best place in your choices. or take only calculated risks and grab the prematch. The match is definitely a gamble. I took a prematch. I had 16 IV overall. did not attend 4 however. I took the prematch which was offered in my second interview. But I took it after attending 12 interviews bcoz initially I wanted to go for the match. After attending 12 interviews I realized I am not ready to take this agony of of the match cycle again at any cost. I want to get into residency. Though the place I took do not have fellowhips & is not among the top 5 of my choices, still I took it as I thought I would do research for 1-2 years after residency and then try my fellowship. SO, though I had a good chances in the match with so many programs, I decided for the prematch. That's just me. But, there are people who are so strong that they go to the match and make it even with less programs. So, if you have a back up plan even if you go unmatched & are strong enough mentally. only then try the match. If not, better option is taking the prematch. Above all, you should decide by your own thoughts and circumstances. Good Luck.

Accept it. I accepted a prematch too. I have 8 IVs, attended all and realized the probability of unmatched is so high because of so many highly qualified candidates in my IVs. Moreover, I accepted a prematch at my 2nd choice (I plan to do rheumatology and the PD is rheumatologist, so this may be an advantage).
