agree with GLO...it's difficult to make such decisions .... I don't know for sure but I guess that the training in internal medicine might be better at BU because of the autonomy plus academic environment from where you'll have also excellent chances for fellowship..
Mayo Clinic sounds to me like an excellent place to practice, or great for fellowship....I'm not sure if it would be better for training in IM compared to BU....
Anyways, for IM compared to many places Mayo Clinic has to be excellent .... it's just that you are comparing 2 great places and any of them should be excellent..... If you like both the same for training, then I would probably choose based on location....
Then other thought, I guess living in Boston is much more expensive but nicer.... If married with kids I'd go to Rochester if single Boston... just some thoughts hehehe

mayo rochester best clinical training in the US, boston university great place as well... Rochester is boring for singles dude, if you are single and need a decent social life go for boston all the way... Social life and relations are soooooo important specially during residency that is tough.. Sometimes when you feel you need a break you have lots of options at Boston meanwhile at Rochester options are ver limited.. So if you cant make up your mind go for he place you are going to be happier...
hope this helps

Either one is good for training, so congrat. at first, and agree with all above opinions.

However, in terms of diverse clinical experience, I think Mayo wins in this category. It's probably the top 5 most medically heterogeneous place globally, not SES-wisely though.

I remember a class back in my MPH comparing different medical institutions in Boston- As Boston is so small and medically dense, BU is more "bread and butter" compared to the big three, but one good thing about BU is its underserved patient population.

I would go with BU anyway, as I'll become a frozen meat bar in MN.

Its chilly up there.. I have an interview to take at the mayo clinic, and I get goose bumps just to think that I am leaving my warm tropical area heading to the arctic cold...

WELL... No pain no gain...

Its the mayo clinic you cant go any better than that right?? Well it depends wether you are going to be happy there with a non existent social life and the freakin' cold...
