hi
i Failed step 1 3rd time. and i am not getting where i am going wrong. is it possible to get into residency with 3 attempts? please advice. i have to decide whether i have to go into other profession. please reply.........................

I know for a fact that there are residencys that accept more that 3 tries, my best friend took it 4 times and he got IM residency.

hi
thanks evreyone for u;r advice. i will definetly work hard again. but still i am confused. some of my friends who had 2 attempts didnot get interviews itseems. my husband is forcing me to leave this and look after his work. what should i do? do i have any chance?

Being honest,
Aiming for ENT, derm, radio, neurosurg, plastic, uro, would be out of reach.
Surgery, Gyn-Ob, Anesth, are a long shot.
IM and FM are doable, but it wont be easy.
Residency after 3 attempts its not unheard of, not common but not impossible.
Show initiative, show your worth from somewhere.
Got any pubs, USCE?
My advice would be, research and look for some -unwanted- locations. Rural or in the borders, try to do an externship or observership. Talk to PDs and explain your situation. You may need to relocate, look into el paso programs and rgv programs.

I know how you feel, but let me tell you that the most important thing is follow your dreams. I can understand sometimes that our family can't understand how is this fight, but is part of our life V_Ashu, we decide to be doctors, so we love it, just we need to keep going and never give up. The next time we will do it!

Hi V _ashu I'm sure U must be feeling down & depressed but trust me the sooner you get over your failure the better it would be for you. I wud never recommend to quit at this stage since U already took the test for 3 times so U must have pretty good knowledge abt the test. Learn from ur mistakes. & this time dont go to the test centre unless U pass NBME's & all other kinds of Mock exams. Dont take too long that will make U feel bored with step 1. Just a couple of weeks may be wud be enough for you at this stage.
I personally wish you all the best. You are gonna make it soon BUDDY.
PS dont listen to your husband.. at this point,

hi ashu... do u visit this forum now? i failed twice.. am worried if i'll make through t match or no... wat about ur fourth attempt? if u gave it a shot, am sure u would've cleared it with t high score... n hopin u havent listened to ur husband... pls let me know wats happening....
