This forum is my friend. I want to share my happiness. Very happy because I got prematch offer today.
I did my step III between my interview. I am working full time in UK. I tried to get annual leave plus unpaid leave for interviews.
I have no time to study but I tried to read FA, Crush step III. I did UW ,just read answer. I did USMLE 123 for CCS.
Actually, I am very happy myself because I did all steps in 10 months and 10 days.
My CS Feb 6, step I in June, Step II in Aufust, step III in December 14.
My preparation is not very good because I am working as busy medical registrar in UK hospitals. My job is stressful as well.
To be honest, I started my preparation only after getting US visa 1 yr ago.
Then started with CS.
I passed. Then step I 93/223,step IICK 99/251.( my average is 237 but some program need average 240 for prematch) sad.
This forum is really helpful. Therefore, I always share my experiences for my colleague.
I am old graduate, 1991. No career break.
Did my M Med Sc Internal Medicine in my country in 1995. Went to Uk in 1999, passed full MRCP 2000. Then, worked in UK for 2 yrs, went back to own country.then worked in South East Asia for 1 yr. Finally back in UK 2 yrs ago.
I got 9 interviews. I need H1.
I went to 7. I cancelled 2.
I came to know and I felt my score is low during interview.
You need 99/99 to get prematch offer this yr.
I got very good response from 3 programs. I am waiting for prematch.
I keep in touch with PDs bu e mail.
They keep saying to me, you will match with us. But, not 100% for sure.
I know I reveive prematch offer in my e mail because this is from one of the program coordinator with attached letter.
I dare to open it. I need to pass step III first.
My real exam is difficult. Lot of 50 50.
Qs are very long. I got only one direct Q from UW. I was running out of time.
In CCS, I got a pt with breat lump and low platelet.
I consult surgeon. I ordered bone marrow. I sent all the blood test.
Then, case finish . Haematologist will take care of the patient.
One of my CCS patient came in with vomiting and unwell. I tried to give everything to get the patient better. Not improved.
Then, she developed chest pain. I ordered ECG( 2nd ECG). The initial one is ok.
2nd ECG showed inferior MI. I tried to type primary angioplasty.Software didn't allow me.I typed thrombolysis. Soft ware didn't allow me again. I was running out of time. Finally, I typed streptokinase. This os ok.
Not a standard treatment these day but better than nothing.
In the score breakdown, I did well in CCS.
You never know what they want.
Step III is not medicine. Lot of concepts.
My exam is not similar to UW. Some people got similar Q from UW.
My suggestion is study every material because there is no standerd book.
Every subjects are equally distributed.
( Medicine is less ,therefore I didn't score well. My step I and II are better because of lots of medicine.)
Anyway, my mission is now happy ending
1 exam per 2 and half month, spending lots of money for travel and hotels.
Hope to be successful in H1 application and move to US in June2008.
For IMG, let me tell my IV experiences. You need 99/99 to be successful. Try hard.
It can be achieveable.
Even for me, old graduate, out of touch with basic sciences and other specialities, full time working, no leave for study. A few hrs study /day.
I did reasonably well with this time frame. I was called from very good programs for IV without any back up.
( write good personal statement, they read carefully)
I dare to go for match.
Finally, I accepted prematch today in NY.
Good luck for everybody.
Dear Forum, many thanks. You motivate me a lot. Without this forum, I will not be successful.
Bye Bye USMLE.
I willcome back to forum and answer as much as I can.
Now, I am doing a week of nights in DGH. East Anglia.

Many thanks redddd and ShweHope.
Can I ask Q to ShweHope?
Where are you originally from?
Sounds like from Asia.
During my study, USMLE world is my favourite.
The score is equivalent to the amount of time you put in study.
Chance of getting prematch is depending on the place of interview.
My experiences is once you are called to interview, your chance is the same as other candidates regardless of yr of graduation, career gap, score etc.
One of my friends, grad yr 1986 still got prematch.
All the best

can u tell me if we need to pass the ccs separately from the mcqs or combined ?

  #6

I am sure combined.
MCQ is 80% and CCS is only 20%.
MCQ is more important than CCS.
UW and USMLE CD practice are enough to pass CCS.
