Hello everyone...I just took the exam on the 28th of december for the 2nd time. I checked my score this morning and discovered that I failed once again. I am so devastated....literally I can't even speak I am crying so hard. I studied so much this time and I really am at my wits end. I did it all. FA i memorized that thing....Usmle world 52% all QUESTIONS, NBME 2 :450-206 Kaplan Lecture twice, Kaplan Qbook first aid cases and Q&A. What else can I do....I am starting today to study. Any advice would be so much appreciated.

hey apoptosis sorry to hear abt ur score ..don feel sad buddy..i know wat u r going thro..but take ur time out to start readin again and chk ur score sheet whr they have mentioned ur weak areas andmayb work on them this time..

sorry to hear that ...but dont looose hope we are professional not test takers only. so better give it a one try more . check your weak areas and work upon it.
study smart..dont read lots books. but study only few ith good understanding.
TAKE YOUR TIME NOW...relax yourself foregt everything.
then fresh start. and work hard.

Sorry to hear that. However painful it must feel now, don't give up. Go trough Askdoctor notes, I find them really helpful.

hey plz dont lose hope and giv exam wiht more revision,i wanan know real exam question were same as usmle world question,or they like nbme type question ,,,,i found usmle world question very difficult and i m scoring almost close to 50 to 54......soo real exam same as uworld type or much easier than that...thanx,,,once again lose give up bc u hav done one time so just try to giv it again ,,,GOD will help u ....

Here it goes
1st attempt: Kaplan Live Lecture for 6 weeks than I had 3 months access to kaplan center and watched videos and did kaplan qbank. I did 42% cum on that. About two months before my test i found out about UW so I did that for two weeks and cum on that was about 45% and I did about 80% of it. On NBME 1 and 2 got 250 on both which is equiv to 145. So no surprise I took the test and failed.
2nd attempt. Prep time 6 months. MEMORIZED FA cover to cover. Did USMLE WORLD got 54% all unused than started to do incorrect and than do it all over again. I focused on my weak points. Immunology, Biochemistry, Physiology (read costanzo). Listened to GOLJAN audio. Took NBME 2 and got 450 which is equiv to 206. Took the exam and failed again with only a 3 point increase.
So NOW I am up for any advice...anyone have any ideas on what I Can do this time. I want to take it in three months while the information is still fresh in my mind. I tried to study today but couldn't even concentrate so im planning on starting it tomorrow.
So anyone that can give me some advice I would truly appreciate it. I'm thinking about chronicling my experience in this forum day by day to maybe help motivate me and anyone else studying for the same thing.

I am not in the position of giving any advise to you, as I m very new to this mle thing... but ur experience make me really worried. It means its not as easy as it sound by some that just do kaplan and it will be piece of cake.

Hey apoptosis......I am truly sorry, I can't imagine how you wud be feeling now....but if you dont mind my saying so ,I congratulate you on being so brave!Yes, you are a fighter man!After all...we truly fail when we fail to try!
I am in no position to advise you , as I havnt yet taken the test .... that you will get from lot of experienced people here, those who have taken the test, ....stick around here, you will get a lot of advise and motivation ......!If you havent already, please read the experience posted by 'askdoc'..http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/34492/3/
Its ok and quite natural to feel the pain you are feeling now.......get mad,get angry........yes even cry your heart out!Take one day out and just be with yourself and vent out your feelings........!And after you are done with that.......wipe your tears, and make yourself the promise that...no matter what this time you are gonna make it!And not just pass, but you will do well! Stay guard at your mind's door and Just dont allow any negative thot to enter......I know its so difficult....esp. when you had done everything in the second attempt! But you have already made up your mind........and if this is what you truly want...then you have to leave no stone unturned to achieve it!
Take another day out ,and read something inspirational....(it really helps me, so you can give it a try)....go outside to park..or a cafe, with the book.....Try 'Robin Sharma's books...they wud really inspire you to chase your dreams....or any other book..or music...or you can just take your journal and write out your feelings....whatever inspires you.......!
Let the whole world know what you are up to......your family, your friends......they just have to wait, while you prepare to achieve your goals...you can always make it upto them, cant you(Unless ofcourse if you have kids......like so many people here do....it really amazes me, how they just juggle studies and taking care of their kids.....)Read the experiences here...Make your own schedule...Make fixed studies hrs in the day when you wud Only study....no matter what!I am not saying you should not take breaks......You have to take breaks...but make sure they are short...and always keep that fire burning in your heart!!!!!!
And please....dont kick yourself for not making it....but rather be proud of yourself that you have the courage to pick up from where you left and start again.......you are brave and love yourself for that......But do kick yourself real hard.....and I mean it, real hard....if anything in your mind tells you that you cant!You are going to do it this time......... !
You will get a lot advise here from people who have tamed the beast.......so follow what suits you best........And never for a moment waver from the path that will take you closer to your goals!

I truly appreciate your kind words. I just hope its like they say "the third time is charm" rather than "three strikes and your out." I will post my study schedule as I go...maybe it will be good for me...I don't know...i mean any other advice on materials i should look into or just concepts I should focus on...is greatly appreciated. I know hou you are feeling now.....i am in the same situation...it is horrible!!, i am so sad and upset, i tried to study today but i can't do it. I'm so depressed.
So apoptosis, i think we can do it ....i think that there are some doctor like us that passed for the same experience before. But we have to push ourselft to keep going, NEVER GIVE UP..NEVER.
I know is painful now but tomorrow will be better for us. I can see in this forum a lot of nice doctors that want help. I am grateful for that.
So, dear Apoptosis.....we have to keep going, right?, because we want to be doctors in this country.

I'm sorry to hear that you too are going through the same thing. I wouldn't wish this feeling on my worst enemy! I know that you are sad and really unmotivated but trust me the best thing to do is to get right into it again. I mean it will be hard to concentrate at first but then you will start to realize that "HEY! This time I'm gonna work harder and more efficiently, and I am gonna pass!" But we can be each other's motivators. And all the kind words that people in this forum is making me feel better already (even though its been a day since i found out). Anyhow yes, we can do it...we will do it!

Well dstudy, I have started with my toughest topic first which is microbiology and immunology. I am doing the kaplan videos once again but im supplementing my reading by doing clinical microbiology made ridiculously easy and supplementing the immuno with lange's immunology. And than after that I am doing Biochem/Genetics, Physiology, Pathology,Behavioral science. As for pharmacology, I am just sticking to FA for that because I feel it is more than enough for step one. That is the one subject that I seem to do pretty okay in But if time permits I will watch the Pharm videos. As I go along to subject to subject I would be happy to post it! Let me know what your plan of action is as well maybe we can coordinate something. hi, apoptosis, do you think the watch the videos again is no waste time?. My plan is read again all the books, i think, for me is better start with behavioral science because i didn't read it...glups!, but then read Biochem/Genetics. After, i'm planing read Micro/immunology, then Physi/patho and then Pharma/anatomy. Yes, you are right, FA to Pharm.
I think is my better this way for me, because i remember when i took the test it was hard to remember Micro/inmuno because it was the first think i read. Biochem/Genetics it was no bad but i need memorize pathways runaway!.
I heard from some friends who are studying i kaplan, they believe that is we take a long time studying is easier forget. So, i think i will take the test in about 3 months too.
Are you doing QBANK on line?..im planing buy UW again and do it in the same time. What do you think?.

I am doing the videos and reading the kaplan books....so I am reading while listening to the videos and taking side notes. I am going to buy UW again and do it all over again. But do you think Kaplan q bank is a must too. I saw on there website that its a newer and closer to step one! But I also heard of USMLE rx but I am not sure... Let me know what you hear or think. I think that UW is good.....but we have to get at least 55% in score. Probably Kaplan Qbank is new, but i can't say if is the best. If you know something else let me know. I will study right now, so we will keep in touch. My email is dr_dstudy@hotmail.com.

reading books, or watching videos won't be too helpful since you have already done that. how many questions have u done from uw or qbank?
I think that you should try to finish all the questions from uw and qbank. by doing that, it will help you to learn, and link all the things from different subjects.

Hey summer thunder, I have done every single UW question they have twice, and Kaplan q bank i have done only once. I think I am missing some important things in the reading...like not asking the "right" questions. Not asking why a specific hormone goes up or down and or even what the mechanism or the pathophysiology of the particular disease or syndrome is. I think this is where I am really lacking. Its like I can tell you everything about the disease but i guess i can't tell you why it happens. You know what i'm saying? But I def will be doing UW again and do you think i should get kaplan q bank again? Thanks for your suggestion, I really appreciate any feedback!

just because you did every questions, that doesn't mean you learned anything. how many questions did you answer correctly? Did you read those detailed explanations afterwards?
just because you can memorize the answers, that doesn't mean you know why they are correct.
