IN the MINICASES section in FA, i noticed that TSH was ordered among the diagnostic test in patients presenting with psychosis!!!!!!
Exactly how will the TSH help us in ruling in or ruling out any of the differentials???

Patients with acute psychosis or depression especially with agitated psychoses may have high thyroid hormone levels and suppressed or elevated TSH values. The etiology of the alterations in TSH are not known. The purpose is not to rule out anything but to give appropriate treatment for thyroid dysfunction (it's standard dg test for these patients)

Those receiving lithium may also have elevated TSH values due to impairment of thyroid hormone release. The purpose of testing TSH is to correct Li dose if TSH isn't in normal range.
