Hi, first time user. What a cool site.
Nice mnemonic is for remembering what a southern, northern and western blot are; the mnem is "snowdrop"...
S...(Southern).........D....(DNA)
N...(Northern)..........R....(RNA)
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
W...(Western)..........P....(Protein)

Not that any of you guys will need this...

CADET for movement of the hemoglobin curve to the right
C = Increase in carbon dioxide
A = Acidosis (low ph)
D = Increase in 2.3,DPG
E- = Exercise
T = increase in temperature
So basically everything is increased except ph, which is low causing acidosis

PVT TIM HALL : The 10 essential amino acids

P= Phenylalanine
V= Valine
T=Threonine
T=Tryptophan
I=Isoleucine
H=Histidine
A=Arginine
L=Leucine
L=Lysine

Doctors--To be most efficient lets try to limit the pneumonics from any one entity to only 2 or at the most 3. For example this classic pneumonic--
PVT TIM HALL-for essential amino acids [PVT stands for army PRIVATE] for those who dont know- {My q is how much simplier are you going to make that???}

Tay-Hex instead of Tay-Sachs (no hexosaminidase)
Glucher instead if Gaucher (no glucocerebrosidase)

  #22

Ehlers-Danlys instead of Ehlers-Danlos ! Can u tell me why?

  #23

Danlys, maybe because it involves collagen and you have lysine in collagen??

  #24

Yes ! Lys comes from lysine . There must be some problems with lysine...
ED syndrome is due to a defect of the gene for Lysine Hydrohylase, and the lysine is not hydrohylated.Result: impaired collagen functions) (HY- Histology -ch.3 Connective tissue)

  #25

Must remember adenine binds with thymine and cytosine with guanine
from Biology 101.(except uracil for rna)
For the # of H bonds:

*2 Thighs and 3 Good Chickens

AT-2 hydrogen bonds
GC-3 hydrogen bonds
