how can you expect an average per iv when there are so many factors involved...The main factor would be from where and to where you are travelling, but there are countless other factors, so there is no way anyone could give you a proper average...

go to travel forums, there are good ideas of how to save some money u can buy a 30 days amtrak rail road pass, assuming u have an international passport u can research about cheap hostels in the cities where you are interviewing instead of going to hotels and some programs will pay the hotel to you as well u can research about public transportation instead of paying cabs when traveling u can walk instead of using buses, u can ask for a ride to a fellow applicant ,u can bring ur own food when traveling instead of buying something outside (well those were jokes but u can still do that if u want) there is no fixed expenses coz there are so many variables. The best u can do is save/make money now, and research in advance. the most $ that u have the better, starting today. The match process is very expensive! But OK, u need a specific amount. I tried to save as much as I could in those ways...I would say I spent an average of 50 to 70 per interview.

$500.00 is an avg if u live in west coast and most ur iv's r in east and if u DONT plan'm at least 3 to 4 wks in advance. this yr southwest had lots of $99.00 one way deals to most of their destinations."hope forum doesnt consider this an advertisement" .... if u apply to bunch of prog in the same area (100 to 200 miles apart) and one gives the iv..u mite not want to make your appointment rightaway..in case if u hear from others..so a rental car and an extra nite in the hotel will do...few hints: do not use airlines that only have one flight to your destinations..try to pack a suit in ur carry-on loggage in case!!!.. i hope this could help a little..GL
