People say you need to get 60 - 70% to get a passing score,Is that true? thats huge. Its hard to raise a score by 10%, so its a narrow margin between pass and fail. somedays i get 50% in some tests, some day i get 60%, i have 2 weeks only, so i may or may not pass.

Isnt that sad? after all these months? its not decided yet, i have to take nbme in 3 days, but still from the score i am doing, i am doubtful. 70% seems to high for me. All the good people out there pray for me,please!sad

Hi antidepressant (a very appropriate name, I suppose wink ), I think the best way to estimate your score would be to do one of the NBME tests asap. You would have an answer, if you're most likely to succeed or if you possibly need to postpone your exam.
The percentage of questions you're getting right obviously depends on their difficulty. You might be doing easy ones and easily scoring over 90% or you're doing really hard ones and scoring below average.
That's why I would suggest you do an NBME exam, say tomorrow. That way you can take another one in a couple of days and compare your scores. I took two of them within my last 2 weeks before the exam, 10 days apart, and I could tell I'd improved, which gave me even more self assurance for the real thing. If I'd scored worse, I would've postponed my exam. Most of the students around here say, that NBME2 is most predictive for your actual score. You might want to do that one shortly before your D-Day.

I wish you luck and I'll actually be able to tell you if my advice for you is of any value, as soon as I get my score, most likely next Wednesday smiling face

usavy, you are a true friend, thanks for your support buddy. i really mean it.

Ewa, thanks a lot. I actually took nbme 2 long time ago, and after that i had break and all, and some people told me about nbme 3 , so, i really didnt know. i left nbme 3 for now. Its comforting to hear that you really improved in 2 weeks. How many hours did you study in last 2 weeks? GL to wednesday, I am sure you will get a great score! since you had a good nbme score!

if you have any suggestions for these last day, that would be great, thank you guys!

hey antidepressant, may be i would not be d good example but here wot happened to me....nbme-2 before 20days,500....nbme-4 before 6days of exam, 410...i was so depressed with this score but i dint let it affect my exam n for d last 6 days , i did only first-aid, nothing else, n putting more emphasis on my weaker subjects from my last nbme...n finally wot happened,i got higher performance in my weaker subjects n moderate to high in sub in which i did very good in nbme....n got 93/224.....so dont get panic n take d maximum advantage of these last days, they can change ur result but work on ur weaker subjects....i hope this helps

  #6

Now when I put a smile on your face smiling face, listen to Ewa, she said it all really well. Staying calm you can surely add those points to your score, which will made you pass!

So stay calm and never ever give up, even you will be passing out during these last days before the exam. Don't drain you energy now, save it for the big day.

I can't remember how many hours I studied in my last 2 weeks before the exam. I got up early to start with the Q-Bank at 8:30 am (just like the actual exam) and didn't stop doing the q's until about 1 pm (with short breaks every hour though, of course, to make another cup of tea or bathroom). I simply tried to get into the modus of the exam, to figure out if I can concentrate for such a long period of time. In the afternoon I reread the topics I felt I needed to, and afterwards I either watched TV or met up with friends.
Two days before my exam I did NBME2 and got 570. I also did some questions from the qbank and scored 80% (my average in the last month was around 65%, though). This gave me confidence, that I was prepared fine. We'll see if I was right... wink
Even though everyone says you shouldn't learn on your last day, I read one BS topic once again (The Physician-Patient Relationship), and in my exam I was thankful for that. What I didn't do on my last day was answering anymore questions. I simply shut my qbank and qbook and only looked through First Aid and Fadem's HY Behavioral Science (the short version). I'm the kind of person, who has to study until the very end, but if you're not like that, just relax. Go for a swim, watch a movie, try to relax.
Ant stop worrying! You've been doing your best the last couple of months, you'll do fine!
Good luck for the final pathway!

Glad to hear you staying strong. Seems like Ewa has always a right words for you. The days till your exam are little bit more than 2 weeks, so use them wise, did you do the NBME already as you were advised to see where you stand? Wish I could tell you what to do, but my exam is still way to far ahead, still can understand how stressful those last days must be. Lastly, don't compere yourself to the other peers, we all are individuals, that is the beauty of mother nature, get inspired, but don't let yourself being put down .

( oh, it's not me on the pic, but I just feel like that, juggling every day ) .

I have exactly 15 days, but if i minus last day, its 14 days, i am a late night study person, so i dont think i can do that on last day. and i have to go to bed early that night.

Ewa, i wish i was getting 65%, i get 50 to 60% on the questions i already did once, and kaplan q bank, since i didnt do that before i get 54% on that. thats why i am crying so much. if my situation was better, anyway, i wont cry right now, time is short, lol. thanks you so much for explaining more.

Thanks GG,for the kind words. yep, the stress is affecting me physically, i think i am releasing more gastric acid, getting back pain, headache, eyes tired, what not, boy, i am complaining too much.ok, back to study.

hey, remember, first rule: never give up!

Have you done the NBME yet? if so, please post your score!

  #18

I am totally heartbroken EWA, I got only 310. thought i will be scoring close to 390, passing score. this is nbme 3. i extended my time once, so i cant even postpone my exam date. Other than behavioral science, everything showed low. and first 3 section, i couldnt finish last 5/6 questions.

look like i am studying for a failure.

dear antidepressant, I really don't know what to tell you. If you cannot postpone your exam or request another test period extension, you will need to try to stay calm and do the following (maybe someone else will have a better advise):
- NBME told you which your weakest subjects were. If it's pharma, pathology or microbiology, ones that come up most often in the exam (or at least they came up in mine), reread those sections in First Aid. Do it every morning and in the afternoon try doing the questions to these exact sections (i.e. in the qbank or qbook). that way you will see if you understand the topic.
- do not concentrate on anatomy, physio or biochemistry too much, if these were your weak subjects, too. I would reread the HY topics, but first do the larger subject. I think FA is the best book right now. I managed to read it completely in 10 days, you can do it, too.
Do not get down on yourself, try to stay calm, you haven't lost the battle yet.
And try calling ECFMG to ask them for a possibility to postpone your exam, it will not cost as much as retaking it... If they say no, start reading First Aid asap!
And after one week, take another NBME to see if you're improving.

Come back in a week and say how you're doing, but this week you're allowed not to read this forum! smiling face I'm keeping my fingers crossed, you can do it!

  #20

Ewa, thanks a lot,

i cant extend anymore, but i could take the test to the last day of this month, so its 31st. i will review FA, and i will take another nbme, 310 corelates to 166, and pass mark is 186. I know i am bad in memorization, thats why i forgot pharma, even though i had no idea that i was bad in pathology. This is my last post before next nbme, I just posted to thank you. Thank you for all your support. even though i know you must wonder why its so tough for a person to get a passing score! i dont know that either! Please pray for me. God bless you.

My situation, Bad, very bad, i mean i am trying, but i dont see any result. a week before exam, everyone knows most of the stuff. I took one downloaded nbme, and in first one i could not finish 7 questions, and in last 3, 3 questions mised. thats a way to find some comfort. i got 168, equivalent to 320 may be. Only 2 point improvement from previous, which was 166. even if this nbme 4 is the toughest, people act different, some get 20 marks more, some get less. I have a very chilly feeling that i am going to fail, and no way i can change that. I am very bad in those questions, they said what bind with RNA, tRNA, mRNA, aminoacyl, blah, blah blah, i mean molecular biology.
In last 7 days after the first nbme, i read pathology, and pharmacology, and metabolism of biochemistry. I might have improved in pharmacology, but didnt get chance to read anatomy, and got some anatomy wrong.
[font size="3"]I am 14 marks away, no calculation is on my favour.moreoever, its not that scores always goes up, from nbme, it goes down too.
[fullfont size="3"]Thanks for your support and please pray for me.

dear anti depressant,i just started step 1 prep after completing CK .

my sincere advice is don't mess up with numbers.i got 320 in nbme 1 month before the exam ,my real exam score is 211 / 87.but,in this 1 month i stayed calm, studied hard and build up confidence, and i believe for sure that it is confidence which is very important for these exams and for that matter in our profession too.
i don't know any thing about u,but u might have studied really hard, might have sacrificed many things for this exam, might have been praying GOD.these r enough ,and HE will take care of every thing else, the ONLY thing u need to do is to stay calm, focused, confident and finally HAVE FAITH IN HIM.
don't worry, just brush up every thing u have read in these final days.DON'T read anything new,u did not touch till now.

GOD will definetely answer ur prayers....good luck buddy....smiling face
