An 18 yr old woman has a 2 cm, firm, rubbery mass in the upper outer quadrant of her left breast. It has been present for at least 3 or months. The mass is easily movable , non tender, and otherwise asymtomatic. Which of the following is most appropriate initial step in management?

A) Clinical observation

B) Mammogram

C) Sonogram

D) Incisional biopsy

E) Excisional biopsy

C

  #3

most appropriate initial step --A observation

  #4

The mass has been there for 3 months, i think it requires further work up with US----->C

if she was > 35 years i would go for mammogram , but in this settings i prefer US
though there is another way since this is a fibroadenoma , you may do an excisional biopsy it both diagnostic + curative
what do you think , let me know

I though e. excision biopsy would be the ans.

The patient is young, no family histiry of ca breast, clinically the mass is consistant with fibroadenoma: I would guess that mammogram and usg may not be needed here. Excision bioplsy would be diagnostic and therapeutic.

what would US tell you? cystic versus solid? is that the reason you would do it. If the answer is C lets say. then i assume you can not have a clinical diagonsis of fibroadenoma and you need futher workup inorder to reach a diagnosis

well considering the age and history ca breast is most unlikely. a nontender movable mass no other complaints is pretty diagnostic for a fibroadenoma. we can confirm the diagnosis with an excision biopsy.

At least thats what i would answer. would like some more clarification tho
