Hi, I have step 2 coming up this month and a few interviews scheduled. Is it worth going to the interview without even writing step 2? Will they be able to rank you? Or is it better to cancel the interviews and focus on the exam, taking my chances with post matching. Will canceling the interviews affect my chances of post matching if a spot is open at the same hospital? My main concern is the traveling, etc., will just take my focus off the exam, which is more important right now, any suggestions?

Attend IV. Having ECFMG certificate is prefered but They like your application so they invited you for IV. Take the chance!

yeah, they knew I wasn't ECFMG certified when I applied, I'm just worried they won't be able to rank me without a step 2 score...does anybody have any idea on this?

Are you kidding??? GO!!! It's hard enough getting an interview, especially since we spend our hard earned money and precious time researching places and applying... it would be a waste NOT to go! And to add getting an IV without your step 2 Score is pretty rare... I also got only a couple of IV's without my CK score, but this means there is something else they like about you so they invited you. They won't be able to rank you without your scores in and without confirming that your ECFMG cert is on the way (like we discussed in the other thread), but as long as you take it by mid Jan, your scores should be in, and by then you can tell them you passed and they can rank you... Even in the worse possible scenario -God forbid you fail your step2, and they can't rank you, you will have at least made some contacts incase they have an opening later on or for next year.

They start on Jan 15th and the deadline is Feb 27th. Here is the NRMP Match Schedule: http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/yearly.html

I would ask: is the rest of your application "complete" to make you competitive for the match? by complete I mean: Strong Letters, USCE, recent grad, research, etc... for them to rank you higher than others? Is it likely you'll score high despite going to interviews? If so, I would take a chance and go.... I not, I would save some money and would concentrate on Step 2, Step3, rotations and LORs, and applying on sept 1 next year...If you got interviews now, then most certanily you'll get more and "stronger" interviews next year.... if you fail step 2 then you won't be ranked, you'll have less chances next year, and oppening are not very common... Step 2 is supposed to be the best predictor of match success for non-AMG senior applicants... On the other hand if I was sure I would get a good score (per NBME, USworld,) I would probably take a chance and see if I like the programs .. good luck with your decision wolverine
