What is the mechanism of pain in tabes dorsalis

  #2

I think it might be related to the Thalamic Pain as it involves DC/ML neural tracks which relay to the VPL of the Thalamus.

  #3

"Tertiary syphilis (tabes dorsalis) includes proprioceptive loss and pain (posterior root irritation), particularly affecting the lower extremities. The lesion involves the posterior columns of white matter and may extend to the posterior roots and root ganglia."- from Clinical Neuroanatomy made ridiculously simple.

  #4

Dorsal columns carries propioception (vibration, joint position, discriminatory sensitivity) via Gracilis and cunneatus tracts, descussates in the medulla, synapse to the thalamus where it seves as a relay to the post-central gyrus (Brodman's area 3,1,2).cool
