Ivonne wrote:A--------> can cause more hot flashes yes, increases hot flashes and also may worsen vaginal dryness, so it may not be good for this postmenopausal woman, especially since she is already having hot flashes and dypareunia. And just to add, Raloxifene also increases the risk of thromboembolism (so its Contraindicated if History of DVT) However Raloxifene can LOWER LDL and Cholesterol !

raloxifene can be used in adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer in postmenopausal women instead of tamoxifen , since it does not act on endometrium. raloxifene can also be used in HRT for women with menopausal symptoms other han hot flashes as raloxifene doesn't cure this!

SERM(selective estrogen receptor modulator) examples: 1.-Raloxifene 2.-Tamoxifen They both do not decrease hot flashes, increase DVTs and thromboembolism but give all the benefits of estrogens without increassing the risk of breast cancer in fact tamoxifen can be used prophylactically in women with increased risk factors for breast cancer.
