marcusgunn pupil is afferent pupillary defect.

specifically, in marcus gunn pupil, there is damage to the afferent limb of one optic nerve. shine a light in the affected eye, no dilation in either eye. shine a light in the unaffected eye, and both dilate normally.

the light reflex causes contriction of the pupil so if it dilates, means that it is not normal  paradoxical
