Dear all, Dose anyone know if Texas Tech University (Permian Basin) Internal Medicine Program, Odessa, Texas offers prematch? I realize it is an IMG friendly program. Thanks

I don't exactly remember touring all of them, but I do remember going to the cafeteria. They did not take me there, but I was very early for the interview, so went and sat in the cafeteria. How did your interview go there? I know a senior from my college and I know for sure that they don't offer prematches. Though its an univ program, the residents going for fellowships is really low!

Can you please recommend which one is the best hotel to stay at in Odessa? Can you also share about the interview experience there? What kind of questions were asked? Medical questions?

I booked hotel late. Only Days Inn had rooms available at that time. It provides free breakfast. But I can smell smoking in the non-smoking room, probably it was on the first floor. I think the interview was very relaxing. No medical questions for me. Hope it helps. GL to your interview there.

My friend interviewed there and she told me that they did ask her medical questions related to a clinical case they where seeing. I had an interview there but for FM. I did not feel I got to see the hospital that well either. What do you guys think of the city? I am confused is it univeristy or university affiliated. Program director mentioned it was University based but on frieda and nrmp it says university affiliated.

No clue..... even if its a univ based hospital, the residents from there are not getting any fellowships! They don't have even a single fellowship positions in their hospital.

I went to Odessa for FM. It is a community hospital but university affiliated. I was able to tour the whole hospital. It depends I guess if the resident touring you is thorough or if you asked where the cafeteria is etc. I know they have a doctors lounge that has free food. Residents can sometimes go there to get a danish or coffee. The FM program offered prematch this year bec of the new PD and chairman. But IM i don't know. There is only Geriatric fellowship but none for IM. The hospital is overflowing with patients bec the only residency program there is FM and IM and OB but they only have 2 open positions for that. Their best hotel is MCM Elegante w/c was provided by the FM program. Good luck IM candidates!
