A 58 year old man has hyperlipidemia and family history of high blood pressure and myocardial infarctions. Several months after he begins treatment with an antilipidemic agent, he complains of abdominal pain and myalgia. Ultrasound examinations shows the presence of gallstones. Which antilipidemic agent is most likely responsible for these adverse effects?

A. Colestipol

B. Gemfibrozil

C. Lovastatin

B.gemfibrozil.....side effects are myositis and gallstones
lovastatin also produces myositis but not gallstones

The correct answer for the question I posted is B (gemfibrozil) nod. Adverse GI effects frequently occur with gemfibrozil therapy. These effects include abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and cholestasis with jaundice. Less common adverse effects include cholestasis and elevated levels of hepatic enzymes.
