myself an "IMS"(INT'L Medical STUDENT [not a Graduate yet]) ,new to this prep stuff perhaps the juniormost here would be starting with the clinicals jan onwards planning of taking the step 1 in 2008 WOULD my seniors here plz tell me 1)would the sole knowledge of the pre/para clinical subjects help me get a 95+? i mean,does one need to study say,harrison's to solve the clinical vignettes? 2)if one gets through step 1 b4 graduation,how much advantageous would it be,would it "save my time"? plz help regards

well clinical knowledge is useful but not a must. a few questions in step 1 are clinical. its basically "basic sciences as applied to medicine" but then much of it is hardcore theory and u r fresh with that. so thats a plus. no clear answer here for u buddy ! if i were u...i would study really hard. read all the available material. take nbme and take the plunge. about saving time...it depends on which month u graduate. for eg. if u graduate in december u have enough time to take 1 2ck and cs before september (the month in which u apply and if u have done these exams u have maximum chance of getting interviews) but if u graduate in say march, it would be better if u take at least one step before hand....in a nut shell try to have scores of 1 2ck and 2cs in ur hands by september . hope this helps
