sally 28 years old attorney comes to her obstetritian for first trimester care. she complains of burning micturition, adn increased frequency. on examination there is mild suprapubic tenderness. her history is unremarkable except for the fact that she takes insulin for diabetes mellitus.she is afebrile and denied chills. she does not smoke , does consume alcohol occassionally and denied sick contacts. she owns a honda , and likes mercedes. she has two dogs at her home. what is the the most appropriate treatment for sally?
a.ciprofloxacillin for 3 days
b.ciprofoloxacilin for 7 days
c.ciprofloxacilin for 14 days
d.TMP+SMX for 3 days
e.TMP+SMX for 7 days
f.TMP+SMX for 14 days

sally has cystitis. in uncomplicated cystitis, the treatment is TMP+SMX for just 3 days. that she is a diabetic makes the treatment for 7 days. that is as simple as that. quinolones are alternatives, but remember that she is pregnant. i have told that in first line of the question! dont be so formal tony, and bye the way you also keep posting questions. areyou from india? let me know

Frequency and dysuria normally occur during first trimesrer.So do urinalysis and culture first.

hi.....
we must do urinalysis and urine culture , if positive we must give
nitroforantoin + ampicillin + cephalexin [3-7 d ]
fluroquinolones are contraindicated in pregnancy .
TMP + SMX can be ineffective in significant numbers of patients but we can use it for 3 d ... . ....
