pete sambras, 25 years old athelete has gone to holiday to connecticut. he has returned to his native state, but experienced difficulty in closing eyes. his wife has pointed out that his mouth droops to oneside while he is laughing, and he is concerned. he doesnot remember being bitten bya tick.what is the most appropriate drugof choice for his condition? a. carbamazepine b.doxycycline c.cefotaxime d.ceftazidime e.trimethoprim-sulpha

I think it's because of Lyme disease..so give b.doxycycline

Hi As there are nerologic symptoms I think it is better to go with Cefotoxin or ceftriaxone.

mkodumagulla is right..any neuro or cardio prob need to be dealt with in a IV fashion..a la ceftriaxone

THAT INFO AINT ENUFF TO START HIM ON NOTHING! THATS NOT REAL LIFE SCENARIO.. ELABORATE FURTHER. IT COULD BE JUST BELLS PALSY WITHOUT ANY OBVIOUS REASON.. BUT IF YOU GIVE ONLY THIS MUCH INFO ITS BETTER TO CHOSE DOXY I GUESS. I SURE DONT AGREE WITH I/V TREATMENT.. ATLEAST NOT HERE MAN! HOPE PETE SAMPRAS IS HAPPY THAT IT WAS NOT HIM!

dude......he returns from conn........hint hint secondly.....bells palsy while just returning from conn is lyme disease until otherwise proven not to be... BELLS PALSY ====== CNS any cns prob or cardio = iv ceftriaxone

no i/v ceftriaxone is not for Bells Palsy even if its due to Lymes.. CN 7 palsy coz of lymes is treated with oral doxy or amox for 2 weeks.. NOT ceftriaxone!!! i/v ceftriaxone is reserved for more serious manifestations like meningitis, myocarditis etc. thats how it is... clear it if any doubts. *piece*

o Facial palsies: Institute an oral regimen for 30 days. o Paresthesias/radiculopathy: Institute IV therapy for 14 days. Oral doxycycline for 30 days may be as good as IV ceftriaxone for neuroborreliosis. o Encephalitis/encephalopathy: Institute IV therapy for 28 days. reference emedicine

for rashes ,bell's palsy,first degrre heartblock in lymes ds doxycycilin is the treatment of choice for 2-3 weeks for others cns manifestation like neuropathy,pericaridits,second and third degee heartblock ceftrioxone is drug of choice couretsy kaplan and cmdt
