I,d really appreciate any info on these programs guys

I,ve got interviews at these programs(Long Island LIJS,SUNY downstate,Westchester,Maimonides,North General,Elmhurst) in less than a week and any information on the interview formats/programs would be really helpful and much appreciated

I can find almost no information on Maimonides???

I,m beginning to think I should have applied to more programs as I applied to 20 (all in New York)and I,m worried that 6 interviews may be risky for the match???

What number of unterviews are most people getting?Good luck to everyone

I hope u all match

Whats your credentials?

  #3

My credentials are ok in steps 1-3. I need a visa(img) and I,ve had psych experience previously

I,m still waiting for a reply on my question-I,m sure some one out there must have some info???I got one reply to the same question in an earlier post

I,ll be happy to help people out with answers after my interviews if I can be of any help

smiling facegrin

Good luck

hi emekai

You can find replys for elmhurst and westchester in previous posts. They are pretty complete!

GL in your IVs

  #6

Thanks cuadrado

Nice to have a reply
Good luck to u too

6 IVs for the match can be OK or can be Risky depending on your credentials.. if you are a superb IMG candidate you should match with 6 IVs.. thats why I ask.

  #8

Thanks newyg
I scored in the 90,s for the steps1-3 and I,m a psychiatrist in my own country
Slightly older img in mid 30,s
We,ll see how it goes

  #9

what does "superb" IMG mean?

  #10

Nadia, It is a genetic clone of superman and an IMG smiling face Well, obviously superb means an IMG with superb credentials...

And emeka you are a very good candidate so you should match with 6 IVs and I believe you'll also be offered Prematch if you ask for it.

  #11

In my oppinion there is no such thing as a "superb" IMG
I can tell you from the experience of the people whom I have known , and known closely , about what this whole thing is you can draw your own conclusions , and it also shall give you an idea why I seem to be crying and asking for your wishes all the time.

#1 A pediatrics post grad from india , score in 90's , one international publication
8 i/v calls, was just waiting where to match , not whether!
did NOT match

#2 another person who has 1 year of experience in pediatrics,
scores in 80's , his english made me feel that, I am a native speaker( and Nadia knows my level of discomfort with this language)
PREMATCHED in 2007 match

#3 another fellow , scores 90's and 80's resp
gets 15 i/v's , goes to A new york hosp( notorious for offering prematches), for the 1st I/V offered prematch.
declines, did not match on the 2006 match, reapplies 2007, just 8 calls.
DID NOT match in 2007,
heart broken ,shattered under a debt of 25000 U.S $

#4 a fellow , 8 years out of med school. scores in 90's
completed a postgraduation.
no usce, no research,
gets 2 calls, was matched at cook county.

All of these people who matched or did not match, say it's a gamble
and I believe.
The first rule to this game is , there is NO RULE.

  #12

These are the exceptions Puchpal.. Rules are obvious, if you play it by the rules you'll match! Besides your credentials your IV score is as much important. And the factor determines your IV performance is mainly your interpersonal relations, especially for Psych!

So if you have good usmle scores, good referances and if you perform over the average in your IV... then you'll match for sure! This is the rule.

And those people that you say, I believe they are just "rationalizing" their failure! We are all human, some people when fail, use their immature defences to get it over without damaging their own ego.

Hi everybody

agree with newyg

Its hard to say where u are going to match but if u analyze honestly yourself u can say how competitive are u. I think if u are going towards match it's important the preparation before it; I mean being sure wich programs gave IOI (Indication of Interest) to you; wich ones have a decent quota for match (some just gave away their positions by prematches); knowing how competitive you are by comparing your credentials with the other applycants that u know; and pray to end in one of our top choices.

Other than that we can't do anything else than we already did. I mean everybody tries to do their best in IV, scores can't be improved..etc; and some of us were not offered or didnt accept prematch bcause of several reasons. Your friends' experience puchpal may vary according how much risk they accepted and where they prematched.

thats why I think this forum is good, bcause allows us to share our experience and feedback from different programs. Knowing the credentials of friends that were offered prematchs or got strong IOI from some program, let us know more about were we are standying and what to expect. So please people who is accepting prematchs, write about it in the forum!

The last: In my interview journey, I met the same friends in different places; so I want to believe that at the end is our choice about where to go; bcause it doesnt matter if u got 10 or 20 IVs, u can stay in just one place. And I suspect that some of the best applycants already are accepting prematchs in some of that institutions. We should keep in touch, knowing were we have better options.

GL to everybody!

P.S. Where we can find stadistics about not matched IMG in psych from previous years?

Ok guys,
I truly appreciate your inputs, This forum , and especially the psych part has been a
good place , with mature and sensible discussions, unlike some other places, where armpits are discussed at length.
I want to say many things both for and against what you guys said, but let me see other people's oppinion.
And nwyyg, im pming you my email
lets get in touch, im really looking forward to meet you,

Hi puchpal

i am fine thanks, but traveling around; cant say that "I have a place to rest". I will send u a PM so we may meet somewhere. U know, u have a hughe advantage at least over me: you seem to have a bigger network of IMGs who are actually in residency or that failed to match formerly. I have no experience, this is my first applycation and I am one of the beginners of my hometown university to try luck in the states. All my imputs are merely theorical and based in a mixture of common sense (not necesarily good sense!) and beliefs of justice. I am almost alone and the only feedback I have is from this forum (I dont visit any other neither). So please argue with us, your insights are always appreciated.

GL

PS For everybody, if u have time read this from Kahlil Gibran http://www.kahlil.org/madmanlp-31.html

Hi guys

I had my first interview today and was offered a prematch at a pretty good New York program which sponsors H1 visas-so I signed the contract

I wish u guys all the best

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

  #17

Emekai.. would you share the program that you prematched with us? That would ease our rankings...

  #18

congratts
you cracked it

now we need your best wishes and advice
im so happy for you

  #19

thanks guys

I matched at a university program

My advice is to try to relax and be yourself on the interview day

You are all highly qualified doctors and most programs will be keen to have u

It looks a bit daunting, but its actually less complicated than it looks

All the best for the match
