One of the effects of screening for hypertension is that those who have an elevated blood pressure may be "labeled." The most likely consequence of labeling these patients is


    1)    they tend to take on sick-role behavior.

    2)    they realize the seriousness of the diagnosis and tend to be very compliant patients.

    3)    they believe that details of their illness are known to other people.

    4)    they are characterized by unusual denial.

    5)    they are at risk for associated depression.

for sure type A personality and anxiety linked to HTN
closiest in the list - depression
other ones seems not proved

and they are not very compliant!

I think your link makes 2 a closer choice
it says that psychological factors MAY affect BP levels. but it will not lead to depression.

Thanks hero for this links. Don't you think the Q is implying the most likely effect of labeling on patients who where correctly labeled with HTN? still confusedconfused

correctly or not, if type A person told that he has some imperfection, likely that he will be upset about it
