no she wasn't. her entire life has been about politics--she belongs to a prominent political family. her father was the prime minister of pakistan at one time.
she is considered among the likes of margaret thatcher for being one of the first female heads of state in the world.

Pakistan lost one of the best politicians it ever had. Ms. Bhutto will always be remembered for her courage, determination and her love for her people & land. May her soul rest in peace

Sad thing is Pakistan got its chances but never managed to escape its current situation for the better. Bhutto senior was killed and now Mrs. Bhutto. Her son is prolly going to take over the PPP once he finishes law school, and he will prolly be killed also.

I have only one prayer for my beloved country and that is for it to be safe and in peace no matter who rules it. Though it is hardly impossible cos any nation throughout the history of nations, whenever subjected into submission by any foreign agenda (no matter what it may be) has retaliated and resisted that implication of agenda and has resulted in bloodshed of innocent people.

Benazir Bhutto's assassination came as an enormous shock. She was a global leader of immense courage and bravery who stood for what she believed in till the end. I'm not from Pakistan but I deeply regret what happened and offer my sympathies and prayers to her family and countrymen. May God bless her soul.

It's no doubt that it's a huge loss to the Muslim World as she was the first female Prime Minister of an Islamic country. She showed the West the other side of the picture that a muslim woman can also be the head of state of a powerful country like Pakistan.

Nobody can feel the pain she must have suffered when her father was hanged and two brothers killed in mysterious situations. Finally she also met the same fate.

The people of Pakistan loved her and elected her twice the Prime Minister but being a wife of a corrupt politician like Asif Zardari aka Mr 10% she couldn't do much for her people and was removed from power. She was indeed " Daughter of the East" maintaining the eastern tradition of living with her most unhonest and controversial husband despite of his shortcomings and raising her children.

Now I feel sorry for those three children who have lost their mother and the tradition goes on of feeling the pain and sorrow even in her next generation.

I pray to God AlMighty is to look after my country and place its future in safe hands no matter who it is. So that it becomes peaceful, stronger and a safer place to live as it used to be in my childhood....Amen

She is a martyr along with all the innocent people who have been killed by ruthless suicide bombers, assassinations etc. Now the most shocking part in your statement is 'They made her a Martyr and the guys who attacked are also called a Martyrs'. Sorry, but the people who attacked are assassins, murderers. Not only her - anybody who kills a fellow human being is a murderer. NOT a martyr. Please look up the definition.

Exactly my point

My dear fellow countryman/woman the point i m trying to make is that you favor Bhutto so you are calling her a martyr while those who favor those fundamentalists so called jihadis the suicide bombers are calling them martyrs.

One commits atrocities in the open while the other commits them in the name of modernization and democracy.

Infact in my eyes both are murders and both deserve to be punished by the land of the law.

I have repeatedly said that i dont agree with the way she was assassinated I condemn it., But does it overshadow what ever she has done.

Look i know you must be angered by my comments but when i asked you to look up the definition of a Martyr was only becuase martyrdom is reserved for people who were killed in unjust but not for an eye for an eye basis.

Now if a mass murderer is assassinated one would not call them shaheed in the true sense of the word would they.

i maybe wrong but her own niece Fatima Bhutto doesnt regard her as a person deserving the martyrdom status.

Again in my view the popular elected official ( an idea you wish to persistently entertain ) was a hack and a buyer of democracy.

All i ask from my fellow countrymen and women is to be skeptical and just.

I understand your viewpoint and respect your views but totally disagree with them.

I have said repeatedly she was not a saint. But using the same yardstick neither are the other rulers in your country. At the moment it's a choice between the devil and the deep sea. Pakistan is at a crossroads. On the one hand you had a leader like Benazir (who's policies and past was well known to all) and on the other a dictator who is hell bent on staying in power by subverting the media, judiciary and the constitution - and who has let extremism flourish in parts of your country.

My interpretation of martyrdom still stands for her as well as the thousands of innocent people who have died in an unjust way. By claiming she was elected by 'buying' votes is a slap to the millions who voted for her. It's good to be skeptical but it's also good to accept facts as they are.

I think The Dawn newspaper is fairly respected in your country. Even it refers to her as 'shaheed' http://www.dawn.com/2007/12/30/top10.htm Read through the article.

I'm not from Pakistan but pray for peace and stability in that country.
