Please help me i am in big dilemma. So far i have finished my four interviews. From my first interview I have received a prematch offer(Internal medicine) from one NY community program. I have gladly accepted it but have not received any contract paper yet. As the program asked me to cancel other interviews i have started canceling my interviews. last week i cancelled my one of the interview in the morning and same day in the evening PD called me and told me as i live very close to that program i should come and see their program, because they are very well known university based program. But that is family medicine program. As PD called me i could not say him no i don't want to go. Anyway i went there and finished my interview and end of my interview PD asked me whether i am interested about their program or not, and gave his cell phone number. I have discussed with my husband and decided to talk again with PD as this is very close to my place where i am living, i called PD next day. I talked with the PD and asked for prematch because it will be too risky for me to go for match right now as i have cancelled 3 other interviews. But this program does not offer prematch and PD told me If i honor his word he will rank me within top 10. But I have to go for match. I think PD was very serious about his decision. if you were in my situation what would you do, to decline IM prematch offer and go to the match for FM. I have only 2 interviews left, But i don't want to go anymore. I have both 2 options both IM and FM. Do you think if i accept FM over IM it would be a wrong decision. Because everyone think IM is lot better than FM. I don't want to hurt anyone but this is true. But this FM program is very close to my place, my husband does not need to change his job, we don't have to move. Please help me atleast give me some suggestion. Thanks a lot bbb.

I can't answer this question. I don't know what's best for you or your family.

I think life is a balnce beetween your job, your family and your personal own desires.Try to think if you can picture yourself as a family practicioner, then think if this program will be better for your family and then make a decision I think is something is better than nothing, and if the FM program is afiliated to an university tha's another plus.... Remember that life is not just about your career is about being happy in all aspects of your life and this include your family and your own personal goals

no one could say what's best for you, only you it really doesn't matter what people think about FP or IM (prestige, money, etc), what matters is what is good for you and what do you like. good luck
