An 18-month-old girl presents with history of high-grade fever. Her physical examination is normal. Which one of the following investigations would be most helpful?

    1)    erythrocyte sedimentation rate

    2)    blood culture

    3)    lumbar puncture

    4)    chest x-ray

    5)    urine analysis and culture

I'm thinking of either 5 or 3 ?
Can anybody help?

  #5

5 nod

1 is too non-specific, it's going to be high no matter what

sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia are more likely to present with physical findings than UTI
