A 50-year-old man complains of persistent foul-smelling diarrhea, six months after undergoing surgery for duodenal ulcer. Investigations suggest that he has developed a "blind-loop" syndrome. Which one of the following microorganism is the most common etiologed agent in this condition?

1) Pseudomonas aeruginosa
2) Bacteroides fragilis
3) Escherichia coli
4) Enterobacter
5) Giardia lamblia

"Foul smelling" is more linked to B. fragilis, that's why I think it's 2.

It has to be either Pseudomonas or E.coli since they naturally colonize theupper GI. I'm leaning towards an overgrowth of Pseudomonas because of the foul smell. raised eyebrow

B. fragilis colonize only the lower gut? Can't it go up? confused

confused not sure. Probably. B. fragilis is more common with GI surgery. Just not sure if it is as common in duodenal as it is colon.

i think 2 as well ! but does it cause diarrohea!

I think it normally colonize the lower GI
