MEDIASTINUM an interpleural partition that extend from thoracic outlet and root of the neck to diaphgram. it is divided into superior and inferior mediastinum by an imaginary plane passing from sternal angle anteriorly to the lower border of of the body of the 4th thoracic vertebra posteriorly ---- A-SUPERIOR MEDIASTINUM contain(anterior to posterior),remains of thymus,brachiocephalic veisns,upper part of s.v.cava,brachiocephalic a,left c.carotid a,left s.clavian a,arch of aorta, both phrenic and vagus n,left recurent laryngeal and cardiac nerves,trachea and l.nodes,esophagus and thoracic duct,and sympathetic trunk ----- B-INFERIOR MEDIASTINUM a--anterior: sternopericardial lig,l.nodes and remains of thymus b--middle: pericardium,heart and the roots of great vessesls,phrenic nerves,bifurcation of trachea and l.nodes c--posterior: descending thoracic aorta,esophagus,thoracic duct,azygous and hemiazygous veins,vagus n,splanchnic n,sympathtic trunk,and l.n
