even though had some prematch offers...i am going to gamble and go for the match because it is a once in life time opportunity with v small chance of getting into top tier prog......also i dont want to regret not going "all the way" would be interested to see if others have succumbed to insecurities of going unmatched by taking prematch. ps this is nice thread cos i am not bashing anyone for the life choices they make....maybe it is me who is aiming too high in the sky and may fall flat on my face......

but ur post sound so bashful..then again having signed a prematch, i may be baised.. ..but..people signing prematch augments the chances of those going into match..dont u think??why i dont want to go to match: 1. my aim when i started USMLE was residency..prematch helps me get it pronto..i might match, but then if i don't, my aim goes haywire.. 2. aim 2 is H1B..with so many willing to accept J1, university programs may have second thoughts about ranking me. 3. if i interview at say 5 university programs, each with average, say 30 PGY-1 positions..it makes a total of 150 positions..20 of those would go to those with connections..that makes it 130..because they are good programs, lets say 30 AMGs would be ranked there..so the total is 100..now they would have invited atleast 700 IMGs..and I have absolutely NO IDEA about the credentials, connections, interpersonal skills, USCE(i have none), UKCE(none)and year of grad(mine is 2002)of 699 of them i love gambling, but i already know my hand is not pretty..so might as well quit with whatever i got

A friendly PD recently described how they think about pre-match. this is a university based program, but not in a major city. they dont sponser visa. And yet, program interviews about 30-40 IMGs who dont need visa. I was one of them. I asked her if the program offers pre-match. She told me they usually dont. According to her, it is very tempting for them to offer prematch for qualified IMGs, but it results in to skewed IMG population. Program becomes less attractive to AMGs. I always heard that theory but first time a PD confirmed it. She said, they have lost good candidates to other schools just because they do not normally offer pre-match. But the moral of the program is always high because, people who come into the program, RANKED the program higher. They are happy to be there. For me, I am going to match because I have only 3 interviews and I still have to do step 2 ck. No program will offer prematch without that score. Would I take prematch if offered, yes, because I am tired of the process and too old to take chances. If I have less then 11 interviews, I will always take prematch. Except I had very good feeling from the PD that I will be ranked. I will strongly suggest that one should visit the programs they are ranking higher second time. It serves two purposes, you get to see program outside of their interview schedule and they know that you are sincere. It will definately bump up you in ROL

i am going for the match simply cos i had only 2 interviews and no prematch offers cos i am still waiting for my Step 2 CS results. However one PD said they would definitely be ranking me if I pass CS. What exactly does that mean? Does it mean that if they rank me and I rank them as my number 1 choice I would match with them?

I attended IV at a famous program and I performed very well during the IV, but I had the feeling that they'd rank me lowly in their ROL because other applicants are from famous US universities, young (final year medical students), and continuously educated. So I'd accept a prematch.

I guess everybody has his own story ; I didn't think I will accept a prematch but my first choice hospital offered to me so... Now I'm struggled with my prelim and I have to go to match because nobody offers prematch to prelim. I guess if somebody decides to go to match he/ she wants to play all his/her cards but this means he/ she has MANY cards! All of us worked hard to be here and I guess we have to do everything to be closer to our dream!
