I am not seeing any people mentioning pennsy.. there's got to be people on the forum who interviewed.... of course most will be UK / Carribbean / experienced.... our program is interviewing almost 200 people for 12 positions.... of course categoricals... remaining 200 are for 15 prelim positions...

Also if anyone has question regarding pennsy state license.. lemme know....... I heard the program is offering 3-4 prematches this year...

come forward.. if you have any questions send me a message.. I can get you an insider's view...

Hi moozy,

I interviewed with PD at the end of November. Awaiting my step 2 CS results. Will be posted by 30th jan 2008.

1) PD told me you need to have step 3 by first week of Feb 2008 to get H1B, beacuse philly takes 4 weeks to get licence. what do you think?

2) Has he given any prematches yet?
He says no, but I have heard 2 people have had prematches from him.

3) What are the chances of cards fellowship?

Cheers

hey mooozy!
Has the PD given prematches?

Yes he has offered prematches. i dont know if anyone has accepted. No good hopes for cards fellowship, as people who scored 99 in 3 consecutive years in Inservice exam and had excellent LOrs and reasearch did not get last year... and once u join the program, u will realize they will not encourage for Cards or GI, because it is not achievable unless ur are in UNi program.

As for Green card; It ia big plus if you are not Indian or Chinese. people who are from Carribean, UK , Pakistan and nIgeria benefited as their waiting list is pratically nothing. I dont know what will happen with India applicants. Their application was sponsored and filed in July-August period, but there is delay at USCIS level as nationally Indians have a huge waiting list. So I don't know if it helps in fellowhip applications. Also, there is uncertainity abt the future of the GC application as once the residency is over and u leave, u do not remain with same sponsors. So if ur are from other countries, ur GC is processed within residency period, where as it is not same for India/china.

Hope this helps.

How did ur interview go? who interviewed you?

Did they send u an email abt prematches last week?

one more thing...

you will be offered a prematch.. or should have rcvd an email by now; ONLY if you were a registrar in UK or have worked in UK for more than 3 years with great LOrs and have MRCP.. they have 4 out of 12 positions to give in prematch... Or else u have to be from Carribbean or some exotic country to spark an interest. last year it was Trinidad, south Africa, taiwan and soth Korea.

last year it was the same.. people who wnat competetive fellowships (Cards and GI) dont come here unless they are morons.. do not fool ur self by saying I will be different.. there were excellent interns who did not get Cards; you wont be specail.. PD will discourage u when u will show interest in Cards...

If u are applying for other specialties, then it is different... people have achieved all specialties otherwise..

cheers Moozy,

No prematch offered to date, PD probably does not like me.I am coming for a second look soon.

I am a UK born Indian - Britsh passport. NO MRCP. 4 years UK experience - medicine and emergency.

1) If I get my H1B sorted then hopefully within the 3 years of residency I should exit eith a GC. Is that correct?

2) One of the R1s I met at pennsy wanted to do an Emergency Med after the IM residency with a green card in hand. The PD discouraged this aswell. So what does he encourage? and will we be left as hospitalists?

Any advice greatly appreciated

...to add Moozy.

interviewed with Dr Soe-tay( hospitalist and clinical associate prof) and PD. Both interviews went well

if you are a british passport... i believe u can have GC by the end... hopefully.

hopefully 2nd visit will help for pre match.

Hi moozy,

I am also interested in emergency medicine. Do think think it is possible to get a top class EM residency after finishing IM residency at pennsy and achieving a green card by the time you finish the IM residency.

EM is highly paid with plenty of free time for family and other interests

cheers

i dont kow of that...

sorry

What program are you talking about moozy .......... confused

  #13

Pennsylvania Hospital, 800 spruce street Philadelphia

BTW.. just so that you know...

There has been a latest devlopment in GC this week... ALL aplications of indian H1B holders are on hold indefinitely until further notice... This has been a big blow to a lot of applicants in Philadelphia region in programs like Drexel, Abington, Pennsy and Alver Einstein.. I believe the same will apply to others.
