hi,
i received the shocking news of my life wen i got my step2ck result in the last week of august it was 183/74 failed.i could not believe my eyes n kept for rechek which came in mid november as NO CHANGE of what it was previously .meanwhile i could manage to give step2cs in november.i got 92 in step1.i am an IMG on F-1 status doing my masters in public health over here.i am very confused now,after the CS exam its almost been more than a month(40 days)that i hav started for ck but im not able to concentrate,get flashbacks of my exam, hav lost my confidence, n sometimes tears roll off my eyes.please help me out.

i got 230 in nbme form 1 ,1month bfor giving ck the exam
usmle cd-39,40,41
uw-2X but never used for assesment used more for learning.used to get 28/46 n sometimes 26/46 but never checked for most of the blocks.bcoz this is how i prepared for step1.i used to utilize them more for learning n nbme for my assessment.
kap questions-did half of them used to do good in them
kap q bank did long back 2months prior to exam
i felt the peds part to b tough n had to rush through the last 5-6 questions in few blocks.
after the exam i thought i will get anywhere around 85-90
please advice me regarding how much does a failed attempt effects my chance of getting residency?my seniors say that i cant apply for IM n FM and PEDS n PSY will also hav little chances.please tell me how shoulld i prepare CK this time.i am unable to concentrate on my step2 ck because of many of these worries kindly help me out of these and plese tell me boldly if i have any chance of getting any residency or should i look for backup.

sorry to hear about the results. I know how devastating it might be feeling.
I had a good friend who failed the exam 5 years ago but eventually passed and is now a second year IM resident.
I myself fear such thing as I have good score in step 1 and other things but hardly able to prepare for step 2 cs.
All people around me keep telling me that it is an easy exam and I am overtly concious, but I know I need to be prepared.
Well, just as my other friend, you will be able to secure position somewhere, but it may not be easy or may need externship to go with it.
good luck, dont loose heart. If you mind and heart are set to practice, dont give up know. You have invested so much in your life...you will find success.

just remember that you have to get over CK this time and that you dont have time to panic or get depressed or second-guess yourself.we all have just about enough time to prepare for this exam.hang in there.you are on the right track materialwise and i am sure you shall do great this time.

there have been many people recently who inspite of scoring good in step1 have failed...
neways dont lose hope...just keep studying.....
take it in positive sense....
what would u do if you had ur score between 75-80?????
atleast u have one more chance to prove yourself...

and forget about residency....ur aim should be ck...thats it...if you think more about residency...u wl get tensed....
just think you have one exam to tackle and thats it...

thanx for the suggestions.hav started my prep but am getting frequent flashbacks of the past.trying hard to get over this.

hi justiceleague....................i am in similar boat as u.There were many unexpected failures/low scores in that period(for those who got results in late august - early sept) . I got my score in 1st week of Sept.......never expected to fail and i have exactly same score as u in step2cK. my step 1score was 88/213.I dont know if it was some error on part of ECFMG/NBME
But we cant do much except give another try with better prep. I think its just bad luck.

lookin at the way u prepared n' at ure step 1 score, i can hardly believe what happened....i dnt want to give u hope but i honestly think u should get a u're step2ck score rechecked....n' if it still ends up bein the same then think of it this way....another chance to score as high as possible instead of being "stuck" w/ a low score.....
