If you already signed you can't do this! You shouldn't sign if you are not happy with a program! Plus, why would you want to scramble if you already signed a contract? Scramble is really difficult especially for IMG's, the odds of getting a spot are minimum, I don't get why you would consider this....

GL , hope u go with ur open clear mind, instinct to choose the rt way for u . GL

well.. it is unethical to commit to one program and then scramble... Also my PC had emailed me before match 2007 to send a poof that I had withdrawn from NRMP... they may have ways to check.. I am not sure. saying that, this year one of the persons who was supposed to join our program after signing prematch did not show up in June and later he sent an email saying that he cannot come from India due to some family health issues.... It is thought by the second year residents (few of whom knew the guy ) that the guy actually got a scramble position in March and did not want to inform till the end.. What did the program do... nothing as far as I know.

harrish wrote: Ok if someone signs a pre match and then scrambles for a better position can the programs find out? I know this seems very tricky but I don't want to be unhappy with my program Thanks Harrish Please don't tell me that you are even contemplating. This is so not ethical. If you sign a prematch, you need to drop from the match. If you are going to the match, you need to decline the prematch.

bbb, please tell me have you heard of stories of programes comming after the residents coz they ditched them? I hear from my contacts that its not uncommon in every match, some applicant ditched some program, but dont know much about the program's reaction to it.Would be a word of caution for thoes contemplating it.

Coming after? No, but I do know that my PD had it mentioned to him by another PD one year when a person that he prematched with another local hospital matched with us. PDs do talk to each other, don't think that they don't......

Not in every instance - this is what COULD happen. this is also talking about a person who signed a prematch at Program A, then matched at Program B. They wouldn't ask for a LOR from program A because they didn't start there.
