Dear friends:

I just found out that for a lot of the IV's at Texas (especially at UT Houston) you are required to have some especial documments. I will post them here so that you guys are aware of this. Some programs don't ask for them until you match but some of them ask them even during your IV (i.e. UT Houston as I have said). This documments are actually required byt the Texas Medical Board to be able to pursue residency education in Texas that is why you will need them.

I hope this helps not only for this years applicants but also fot those applying next year so that you guys are aware of this and does not take you by surprise. You guys have to have all this documments in originals and also in notarized (certified) copies.

For next year applicants: to avoid double work ask you medical school to include total hours of all the subjects covered during medical school (not only clinical clerkships) so that you have this requirement ready.

Here it goes:

Foreign Medical Graduate Resident and Fellow Document Review Checklist

1. Medical School Diploma (note: Mexican diploma must say “Titulo"

2. Diploma Translation (if applicable)

3. Medical School Transcript

4. Transcript Translation (if applicable)

5. Transcript of Medical Clerkships
(TSBME Requires 60+ hours)

NOTE: The GME will need to know "total" hours for each one of your clerkships.

6. Clerkship Translation (if applicable)

7. Dean’s Letter

8. Dean’s Letter Translation (if applicable)

9. Valid ECFMG Certificate

10. Proof of Legal Name Change i.e. Marriage Certificate

11. Name Change Translation (if applicable)

You must bring ORIGINAL documents for everything listed plus a certified copy (NOTARIZED). The GME office will look at the original and give it back to you. They will keep the copy. The copies only of your paperwork will become the property of the GME office and you will not get them back even if you do not match. You will take the originals with you when you exit the interview. Please note that we realize some original diplomas are very large, but you must bring the original and a copy of it.

This documment was given to me by UT Houston but as I said you will need this for most of the programs in Texas so better make sure that your medical school transcript includes total hours for every subject. I also received a guideline of the subjects that the Texas Medical Board puts more emphasis on I could not paste it so here it goes:

Basic Sciences:

Biochemistry, Biology/Histology (course tittled cellular biology or microanatomy will suffice), Gross/Human Anatomy, Immunology/ Microbiology (any of them in separate with more than 60 hrs will complete this requirement), Neurosicence ( neuroanatomy as part of anatomy + neurology satisfies this requirement also neuroanatomy +neurophysiology taken separatelly will suffice), Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology.

Clinical sciences/clerkships:

Family, community or emergency medicine (any of them will suffice), IM, OB/GYN, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery.

You have to complete at least 60 hours of all of this subjects to be able to complete the minimal requirements of the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners (TSBME) for IMG's to pursue a residency position at this state.

Hope this helps guys, if you have any other question please let me know and I will be glad to help.

Advice: Even if they don't ask for this during IV they will ask for it once you match there so why not get it beforehand?

See you guys soon!

Thank you so much for your review on Methodist Hospital!!! Did they ask you for these documents at Methodist?

You guys are welcome! I know prueba!! My thought exactly!! I hope applicants that are applying for next year get to see this so they don't have to work twice to get the documment with the hours like I'll have to, everything else we already have because it is part of the ERAS packet.

Carmencita: Neither methodist, Baylor or UTMB galveston ask for the documments during the IV but I asked them and you will need to have them if your match there because it is required by the Texas Medical Board.
