Can anyone explain: Ratio of plasma free calcium to bound calcium increase in acidosis and decreases in alkalosis
Why?

albumin is a negatively charged protein...
calcium is 40% bound with albumin...
when there is increase in pH.... there are LESS H ions available....so albumin becomes MORE negatively charged....which attracts calcium which is a positive ion to bind with it and free calcium is decreased

for acidosis..its vice versa... smiling face
