hi dear friends after a long time I log in to the forum. I am still travelling for IVs. So this would be very brief.

Timing

After my step 2 ck I did one observer ship for one month and then spent about 3 weeks in application process. then only i strated my prep for step 3. I bought UW for two months for my prep and decided to do it in two months but i couldn't study properly during those two months full time because my time was wasted on waiting for IVs and worrying about rejections, Iv scheduling, attending IVs etc. So I on and off studied for 4 weeks and then full time studied for two weeks.

Prep-Material

Regarding my prep, before i got my results I told every one that I don't recommend the way i studied, but now I feel that my way is also fine. I read only First Aid for step 3 ( latest edition) bought Crush but didn't have time to read. Did UW MCQ once, timed but subject wise ( this is different from my previous steps. earlier I did mixed random but this time I wanted to learn from the Qs and thought of doing subject wise, but timed) Did USMLE step 123 ccs cases once (bought it for one week). I was really worried because i couldn't do all the UW ccs cases, due to lack of time. I did NBME one week before and scored 480 and UsMLE CD 3 days before and average was 78%

Material -how helpful
  • FA -when I was doung UW as well as the exam I felt it is inadequate and wished If I read all the step 2 CK
  • UW MCQ - V good master it but Qs were not like UW. any way you learn a lot from UW
  • UW CCS- Very good but I did only about 28 ( because my performance in step123 was good I kept UW ccs to be done during the last three days and I couldn't finish it- so my advice is to start it early
  • USMLE step 123 CCS- Good to learn, actually it is not fully interactive and not the USMLE format, But I learned the sequence well from this
  • NBME - good to assess your MCQs, they don't give a coorellation with the actual exam I got some Qs similar to NBME
  • USMLE CD- MCQ -exam format is exactly similar to the CD but Qs are difficult CCS- ry to practice those four cases several times I did one case two weeks before and the rest night before the exam. I think i did a stupid think. I could have practiced it more

EXAM-

MCQ

I get headache even now. So tiresome and i ran out of time in each block. Most Qs I read only the first and last few lines. Some Qs even I knew the answer it was not there. I didn't see big difference in MCQs in both days. You have to know the pictures well unlike in previous two steps you cannot answer witout looking at the picture.

CCS

i didn't get so difficult un common cases. but my only problem was only two cases ended in 15 mins all the other went until the end of 20 min. I got many Er cases. only the two office cases finished earlier. I don't know even after i have done all the treatment I know and even after some improvement of patients why they didn't end. May be I didn't turn the clock wisely. I was so worried as having UW ccs cases online for 2 months I couldn't do them well. But now i am happy as out of all my best performance is in CCS

Mistakes
  • didn't study Ck books
  • Didn't do all UW ccs
  • poor time management
  • didn't take it seriously-I just wanted to pass it soon

anyway Iam now so happy I did study little and got this score

Advice
  • Do it as soon as you are done with CK
  • prepare well and take it seriously
  • practice well Esp UW and USMLE CD

Scores
  • NBME 480 (1 week back)
  • USMLE CD 78% ( 3 days before)
  • UW-60% ( One time- timed subject wise)
  • USMLE steps 123 (ranged from 60-95%)
  • Exam 217/89

To moms-

My baby was crawling and crusing when i did step 3. It was difficult, but I tried my best to study all the time she sleeps and do other stuff at home while she is not sleeping. But last three days I kept her in the day care as i was crying without finishing the studies and ccs cases. You know what happened she got cold from the day care and then otitis media. She had fever 105 on the night before the second day and my hubby took her to the ER at 11. Any way to all the moms who do steps-U CAN DO IT
