A 55-year-old renal transplant recipient on chronic steroid therapy is hospitalized with fever and headaches of 5 days duration. On examination, the patient is confused and has nuchal rigidity. A lumbar puncture disclosed 120 WBC (80% Lymphocytes), CSF glucose of 40 and CSF protein of 95. A smear of CSF revealed many WBC but no organisms. The most likely cause is:

A Herpes simplex meningitis
B Listeria meningitis
C Neisserial meningitis
D Pneumococcal meningitis

listeria sure is frequent in renal trasnplant n IC but lymphocytosiss!!! :roll:

it is csf lymphocytosis, not peripheral

i dnt thnk listeria wud cause csf lymphocytosis(bacteria :!: )its a pict of viral disease.

Some bacteria (eg, Mycoplasma, Listeria, Leptospira species, Borrelia burgdorferi [Lyme], spirochetes) produce spinal fluid alterations that resemble the viral profile.
