Which of the following antihistamines would be the most appropriate treatment for an airline pilot with hay fever?
A. Chlorpheniramine
B. Diphenhydramine

cannot be 1st three choices..has to be some less sedating 2nd generation....Dont know abt choice D and E

C if he also has motion sickness.
Chlorpheniramine can cause paradoxal CNS stimulation - it might worksmiling face
Not Terfenadine - risk of cardiac arrhythmias.
Not B and D bcs of sedation

Must be Loratadine or Fexofenadine as a choice for the pilot smiling face

E - TERFINADINE- good for short term & intermittent use. its carboxymetabolite produces torsades de pointes only with overdose.

The correct answer is E.

Terfenadine is the only drug listed that does not cross the blood-brain barrier and therefore does not cause sedation (a bad thing for someone flying an airplane). Other drugs from the same class (piperidines) include astemizole and loratadine.

All of the other choices have some degree of sedation as a side effect and therefore would not be recommended for someone who is flying an airplane or operating any kind of machinery.
