A 21-year-old male presents with three days of abdominal pain and tenderness in midgastric and lower abdomen. He was febrile (39.2oC), tachycardic and tachypneic. He was admitted and blood cultures were sent to the laboratory. On an exploratory laparotomy, he was found to have a gangrenous and perforated appendix. The blood cultures were positive for a Gram neg rod. What is the most likely organism? A Bacteriodes fragilis B Bacillus subtilis C Bacillus cereus D Clostridium perfringens

clostridium is gram positive, but you are right that it may be a good ans. i the q they asked the gram negative rod, so Bacteriodes fragilis is correct
