Dear bbb:
Could you please give me your expert opinion on switching programs after PGY-1 (in internal med cat track)? Does getting a spot at another program or not totally depend on the current PD's letter? How can I find out open spots?
bbb, I'm totally depressed these days. Pls help me.

My answer isn't going to make you any less depressed, sorry. It's hard to change programs, the amount of second year places is totally dependent on the number of people looking to change. My PD won't look at a candidate's application for a second year without a LOR from their current program director. That's not even at the interview - it's when the application is received. No letter, application is recycled.
