i am ecfmg cert and dont need visa... gave s3 to compensate on attempts in s1 and s2...

have 4 upcoming ivs... will i be asked? and if asked, how shoud i reply or what should i say? or how should i explain?

should i say: although i felt confident in my knowledge, and i did well in ccs part, but overall i wasnt that well-prepared, felt anxious, and was a little short of time during the exam; i will continue to work hard, thoroughly, and efficiently in improving my prep and correcting any weaknesses....

Say: although I am not a good test taker, I am confident in my knowledge and sure I will be a great resident and contribute a lot to this program. For example: I ... (say something very strong about you, like good team work, good interaction with patients, calm and efficient under pressure, quick learner, etc). Don't try to talk a lot and explain a lot about negatives, you may end up saying things they don't like. Turn the talk rapidly into positive things. You are selling yourself. Just don't lie.

Make a list of all your positives, as a doctor and as a person, and read before the interview, so they are fresh and will boost your confidence. Call your mother or a best friend if you need help with it. wink

Good luck!

drhabib:

Very seldom in my life (that includes my love life) I was people's first options. But I was always the best, they ended up learning and saying. I learned to be humble and patient and trust and bet on myself . If a door is not opened, I'll kick it! And clean the mess afterwards. wink

In my home country, I didn't go through the official pathway to get where I wanted (cardiology) because I was so in love with it, that I didn't want to learn anything else doing Internal Medicine. After one year in cardiology training, in a not so good hospital, the best cardiology hospital in the country CREATED a training position for me and another guy to be in. After one year, they wanted to hire me (which I declined to, for personal reasons, but was happy there for good three years). I passed the cardiology board with flying colors, voilá, I was a cardiologist with a wonderful cv!

My situation now? It's been 7 years since the last time I prescribed somebody a drug and signed as a physician. The result? A solid marriage, three very polite kids with no cavities and a better than average quality of life.

The odds I will get into a residency program with this huge gap? Not very good. Do I believe God is going to let my talent and experience as a doctor be wasted, just like that? Nah...shaking head Something is gonna happen. Something good. nod I am doing my part. Studying a lot. Trusting myself. And trying to empower other people with my beliefs.

At the end of the day, all we want is to make a difference in people's lives, as doctors, as friends, however we can, right? wink

Thank you, guys.

I just love this place where people can relate to almost everything I say. I've seen so many wonderful things happening to so many people, it's a matter of looking in that direction, not the opposite. Failure is part of life, but so it's victory. Any person who finishes medical school is a winner in my opinion.nod

Cheers! wink
