I totally understand you mph dear! I'm in the exact same situation... I'm getting a prematch from a program I would not rank at the top but I would rank it highlly and I know that once I refuse to go for it they might or will not rank me at all! I don't want to say that prematch should be banned because that would be selfish since I know a lot of good friends that have gotten great benefit from a prematch and are now very happy with a position at hand but I think they should still rank you even if you decided to go for the match... yeah I know! Keep dreamin'!!sticking out tongue

i agree with mph, even though i have accepted a prematch offer. it worked in my favor, but if the whole process was done away with, i would be very okay with this.

i only accepted because it was my favorite program, but i still considered going through the normal match. maybe i would have ended up there anyway.

I think only a few here would be ready to give up 2-3 months of extra peace of mind before match. This hate of pre-match can only be seen amongst people who are getting multiple pre-match offers and are confused where to stamp their approval.. I do agree though that PD doest not have right to punish/bully you for not accepting the pre-match. BUT THERE IS NO PERFECT WORLD. EVEN GODS HAVE PROBLEMS!

its different strokes for different folks.
For me it wasn't that big a question cos I needed to match in the same place as my husband or at least within driving distance so we applied to the same places .
He is an older grad with better scores than mine. Mine was going to hit the 5yr mark if I did not match this year. When we were offered the prematch my dear, it was tue day evening my Husband said yes then called me.
We were there by the time they opened the off the next day. I did not want to wait till the match to find out that my hub matched > 50 miles from me. In this case I believe most will have done the same sign withouit thinking twice esp if it was your top 2-3 programs of the places you interviewed at.
Truth is if we did not sign the chances that we wuldn't have matched was quite slim but ............
your guess is as good as mine

while we r at this subject..why do the programs offer prematch?arent they saying they dont think very highly of themselves and they know AMG'S r not going to rank'm high so they try to fill their positions with the best of IMG'S they intrvu.
so if ur an elite IMG..why would u accept a prematch from a prog that offers one..go 4 the match!! and leave the prematch for us so so.. IMG'S

mph,

Actually i didnt find obvious policy announcement about J1 change.
I searched Taiwan news, AIT(American institute in taiwan) ,and Taiwan Ministry of Education but didnt find something new.
Would you please indicate specifically what changes occurred to the J1 policy of Taiwan, instead of USA? Thanks in advance..
