In one of my interviews, I was asked how many other interviews do I have. I said the truth and told the interviewer that I have X number of interviews. Do you think I said the right thing? Or should I have answered something else.

I don't like to lie so I just said the truth.

Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

U can either choose to lie or tell the truth. grin

Some choose to deviate into where you mainly apply, say a vague term like "not many", or use a categorical scale(like less than 10, more than 20).

They usually wont keep pursuing the answer after that.

On a couple of my interviews I got asked the same question but in this form: Where else did you apply? And they did not take East Coast for an answer, they wanted names of programs!...I told the truth though, did not want to lie.

I really dont think this is fair to ask & not sure what they want to hear.

for IMGs they already know we need to apply toatleast more than 50 programs, then why do they ask this???

i typically go by the program size etc...like if i am interviewing at a big program, i name 2-3 big programs.and if i am interviewin at a small program like some programs in bronx i jus name the other programs in bronx of similar size.....dunno if its a good ideaa...

I got asked the same question and just mentioned the states that my interviews were in

Hi

I got that question alsa and I think now I am prepared for it:

for community programs, say ur other community ones. The same with universities. Say just the ones in the same geographical area. You can take your chances and say programs that are less competitive than them as well.

I guess that questions is done bcause they want to figure it out how high u are going to rank them; so it's OK for us to assure them that we are going to rank them high by saying that:

1. They are the best program were u got IV

2. they are located in a zone where u would like to be...etc

hope it helps. please anyone else has other comments about that matter?

I got the opposite experience. I named my other programs that were obviously much better than the one where I was interviewing. Both offered prematch!
if you don't want to get prematch offer tell them that you have IV from the programs at the same level or less so you won't be considered a strong applicant any more and you can safely go for match!! Any other idea?!

I think is a good strategy,For the big programs let them know that other competitive prgrams are interested in U and with the small ones, use the ones with similar backrounds becuase if you use big names they maybe feel intimitaded and will not rank you high because they will think that U will preered to rank high the programs with big names....

I was asked this question in 2 of my IVs.

I answered generally : "I have some more IVs at other hospitals but this is my 1st/second IV".
